University Laterals edged closer to the the Southern Championship 6 title with this 2-0 win over New Town Eagles at North Chigwell tonight.

The win put University one point ahead of second-placed Beachside.

This University side boasted some great stars and State representatives of the past, many of whom had won titles at the top level in Tasmania.

Others, including Alexis Bull, are giving back to the game by coaching at youth level.

It was worth coming out on such a blustery night to see these players in action.

And, the floodlights at North Chigwell are far superior to those at KGV Park and this made photography a pleasure.

Goalkeeper David Kruijver kept Eagles in the game in the first half with an excellent save.

The closest University came to scoring was when they hit the crossbar.

University hit the lead 5 minutes after the interval with a superb goal when Stuart Collins chipped the ball over the keeper from range.

Nigel Blundell added the second 14 minutes from the end.

Substitutes Les Jackson and Scott Hadley did not get a run.

Hadley ran the line, while the selectors probably felt that Jackson had probably played enough games for University in his 50-year career as he had bettered the 1,000-game mark earlier this year.
