South Hobart took the lead through a hotly disputed penalty midway through the first half, but Eagles equalised through George Ivanov in stoppage time at the end of the first half.

Eagles were down to 10 men by that stage after Brett Andrews was sent off 6 minutes before the break.

Matthew Pace restored Eagles’ lead on the hour, but the home side salvaged a point when Brayton Allan equalised a minute before the end of regulation time.

There was still time for more drama as South Hobart had Troy Carroll sent off in the 2nd minute of stoppage time.

“South started really well,” said Eagles coach, Tommy Fotak.

“They moved the ball well and had more of it.  They were disciplined positionally when we had it.

“We found our way into the match and then to concede a harsh penalty and have a player sent off, that really put a big challenge in front of our team.

“Credit to our guys.  They equalised before half-time and then were valiant in the second half, taking the lead.

“I’m gutted for them to have conceded so late.  They didn’t deserve that.

“Our lads never stopped and built some good chances to go ahead again but things out of our control prevented them from being able to take advantage of that and I feel for them. In the context of the day.

“It was a great performance and they can hold their heads up and I’m really proud of them.

“Oates, and I think it was Tucceri at left back for South, are two players to keep an eye on.  I admire the way they go about it.”
