The Lions announce their 2010 appointments

Photos: Geoff Freeman (top) and Warren Iles

Geoff Freeman has been re-appointed as senior coach of Kingborough Lions United, but he will be joined by Tim Dale as co-coach for the 2010 Premier League season.

I guess that means they will be joint-coaches.

Freeman, who coached Christian United to the Division One title in 2005, has been with the Lions as a player and coach since 2006.

He has been in charge of the seniors for the past two seasons.

Dale was the 2006 Premier League coach-of-the-season and has been involved at the club since he was a junior.

“We are looking forward to the new season,” said Freeman.

“Pre Christmas sessions will be all about games and getting people back into the swing of things.

“It’s also a chance for new players to come and meet current players and coaches and check out the club.

“It’s always a positive atmosphere, with good weather and a nice surface to play on before a bit of hard work begins in the new year.”

Warren Iles will coach the Lions’ Premier League Reserves side and will be assisted by Chase McConnon.

Iles coached the reserves in 2006 and 2007, while McConnon had them last season.

Mick Trotter, known at the club as “The Master”, will again coach the under-19s.

Kingborough are hoping to re-enter the Women’s Premier League competition next season after two years in Division One.

John Fox has been re-appointed as women’s coach, while Martin Dunnington will be in charge of the second women’s side.

The club is also considering the possibility of fielding a third women’s side next season.

Women’s training will commence on Sunday,10 January 2010, while men’s pre-season will start in early January.

Small-sided games will be conducted for the eager beavers, starting on Wednesday, 2 December, and continuing every Wednesday from 6.30-8pm at the Sophia Street Oval at Calvin Secondary School.

Those interested should check out the Kingborough Lions website for further details.

The Lions will be holding their AGM at the Lightwood Park clubrooms on Sunday, 6 December, at 2.15pm.

  7. Is it true Ben Crosswell is at Beachside? more clubs than Tiger Woods!

  8. Ben crosswell, hes head is as big as Tigers driver too...

  9. word is corey 'im better than tasmanian soccer' smith is going to leave glenorchy knights because he wants money. crosswell is looking at being the first player to play for every single mens team in the state. jackson marsh is reportedly staying with glenorchy knights after his lovers tiff with chalky, they are now two peas in a pod. fletcher 'red power' tracy is apparently returning from holiday and being paid by metro chigwell to put 'bums on seats'. danny prestage is reportedly in talks with michael roach of nelson with rumours of a pay as you play contract being discussed. chris 'cj' jones has been courted by barnstoneworth with a 'box of draught per game' incentive.

  12. Rumour has it Brett Andrews and Michael Palmer have been hitting up the gym in pre season and are looking at 2010 to be there break through season.

On another note, Tom 'T-rex' Sherman is about to throw in the Sandwich business trade and move into the carpet business with the Knights coach.

  13. Even if the olympia president is loaded, who in their right mind would splash the cash on tasmanian football players in an amateur league. Most players in this state think they are better than what they are, so why would you bother spending money on these types.

  14. Whats this do players down south get paid, stopped up north years ago!!

  15. John and Rangers President agreed. No one in their right minds would pay players in Tasmania to play soccer. But having said that not everyone is of sound mind!!

  16. hahahahahaha thats a good laugh shermo to stay in tassie... he comes home in the off season every year trains with his either his brother/friends or old club he plays in the VPL and thats where he will stay for now. and does ben crosswell being a c***head have anything to do about how good he is.. or playing at as many of clubs as he does make him a worse player? surely not you blokes are idiots if you think so.

  17. anonymous well said ...for all ben croswell is he is arguably one of our states better players and off field a bloody nice guy who may have been playing on the mainland if other c***heads in power didnt make statements at nation trails of not thinking he was a player they would recommend. Development wont happen here while people with those attitudes are given power at the cutting edge of our sport

  18. Sherman got cut from Melbourne Knights anyway, didn't he? I'd say there is more of a chance of him staying this year than in previous years.

  23. Rumor has it, that chris 'cj" jones has been asked to stay at preston loins for 2010. He must have the taste now for VB, and not draught or light ice.

  25. surely the reason why this league is in disarray is because such quality players are leaving the state for better offers. if club officials showed greater support in their headline players, then the standard must go up- however, some players here at the moment need to get out of their teammates shadows and start playing to the standard thats required of them. still- too many players are turning to the brett pullen syndrome ( club swapping) i feel

  26. i think there is a little posse trying to segregate themselves from the football community here. i can just see a couple of you cackling amongsst yourselves rolling around in your own fluid and faeces. do your talking on the pitch, coz the only jokes here is your ability, not these mind numbing posts

    ReplyDelete
  27. chalky why do you love eating nuggets so much? and if jackson marsh can't handle top flight training maybe he should go back to the divvie leagues

    ReplyDelete
  28. leave marshy alone, just because of his low IQ. he loves the game so much just let him play

    ReplyDelete
  29. i dont know why everyone is ripping poor old jackson marsh, hes 5 times the player corey smith is, the only thing i think he needs to get rid of is his head band its shocking and i think its making him make wrong desisions on and off the pitch, marsh has a lethal right foot and is good in the air and after a season back in the top flight i think it will only benifit him

  30. Those rumours about CJ could be correct, I heard he offered the coach a pair of free blunnies to secure a game the season just gone, now he has offered everyone at the club a free pair of blunnies for his services in 2010 season.

    goodluck CJ

  31. why does everyone feel the need to rip everyone on this blog. i love this blog, and walter does a top job in getting this continually up to date. i love the game, and for all the haters out there always willing to bag everybody i say get off, and leave the positive comments to those that care about the beautiful game.

  32. whatever marshy, if you can't take the heat.... well you know the rest. maybe you can tell me about your boy toy smithers. why so quiet his comments and insight were entertaining, i miss him

    ReplyDelete
  33. Marshy its a known fact that some of the lunatics are free not all in padded cells so dont take notice of them mate -- simple simon appears to have escaped the dragnet but there closing on him haha its the would be,s that complain the can do,s that stay silent so let them rant its fun to laugh at them.
oh ya and incase they ask what category im in im a wanna be - i wanna be as good as the marsh , smithy and crossas but alas i am not so i am satisfied watching those that are

  34. well whatever powers and cunning the sly fox smith possess's, hopefully the lions can now try and endure the services of the ex/uni/metro/zebras/knights utility. if they are true, corey has already met the club heirachy and likes the "homely" feel which was the apparent way he put at a recent associate gathering. which also included missing a bucks night for their best and fairest. maybe it was the close bond he has with the lion's women's team miss pitt that got him across the line. his fiance pulls some strings at the club and made sure that if the clubman surely fell out of line, she would drag him back into shape. as with most saturday nights
