Marcello Marchioli won Kingborough Lions United’s George Arnott Medal at the club’s trophy night recently.
It was the 21-year-old midfielder’s second consecutive win.
Marchioli was the club’s top scorer and also represented Tasmania against the Central Coast Mariners.
He also took out the club’s Players’ Player-of-the-Year Award, so it was a momentous season for Marchioli.
Kingborough women’s player Madi Iseli won the Zoe Nolan Medal, with new recruit Cassie deVries being the runner-up.
In the men’s Reserves, defender Tim Polmear and striker Liam Brown shared the Bernie Siggins Award.
Colin Hughes won the Reserves’ Players’ Player-of-the-Year Award, while Chris Iseli took out that award for the Under-19s.
Robbie New received life membership from Kingborough Lions United in recognition of his long playing career and off-field work as a major sponsor for the club.
Kingborough Lions United president Brian Dale also rewarded Kate Churchill for her work in the kiosk this year, and Euan and Eddie Rodgers were awarded the Laurie Harvey (Outstanding Club Person) and Mike Perrin (Outstanding Club Service) awards, respectively.
Pete While was also recognised for his lengthy contribution to KLUSC with a Club Service Award.
Other playing award winners on the night included: Dave Leamey (Most Outstanding Youth playing Seniors), Joe Davis (Under 19’s Coach’s Award), Dave Hodgson (Div 2 Players’ Player-of-the-Year), Seb Gore (Div 2 Most Improved), Scott Pepper and Ian Cannon (Div 3 Best & Fairest), while Cannon also won the Players’ Player-of-the-Year Award; Bradley Anderson (Div 4 players’ player), Bryan Bready (Div 4 Coach’s Award), Georgia James (Women’s Premier Reserves Players’ Player), Charlotte Brown (Women’s Premier Reserves Coach’s Award) and Wayne Quinn (The Finishing Touch Club Leading Goalscorer).
Kingborough also thanked all their volunteers throughout the year, especially: John Fox, Bernie Siggins, Jason Wicks, Kathy Norris, George Harms and Tim McConnon.
KLUSC are set to announce their coaching appointments and pre-season information in the next week or two.
Josh Fielding has officially signed for Olympia! They must have thrown some big $$$ at him for him to leave Knights.

ReplyDeleteI believe the story at Olympia is that Fish is offered $15k and Scotty $10K, both under formal contracts. If this is correct then one hopes that FFT do their job in making sure that all matters comply with FFA rules as they are then considered professional players.
I can say to you all as long I remain President of Olympia FC Warriors money will NOT be paid to players who offer there services to our club. We are a club which will in the next 2 months go into 350k debt to finance our new home ground facility. Our focus will be to create an environment which will help develop our players both on off the field to be responsible and accountable to themselves and others around them. All players are welcome and will be duly rewarded by the good people they meet and the the friendships they will make during their association with our club. We are passionate about the game and welcome those who wish to join us for this exciting ride into the 2011 season.

Lets hope the lions appoint someone to coach outside the club its the only way forward for the club they have to get away from appointing in house.
ReplyDeleteAnonomous 8.35am - what a fantastically stupid statement to make. You mean to say the only people that can take the club forward would have to come from outside the club? A few years ago Tim Dale & Warren Iles were awarded the most outstanding coaches award for Southern Tas when the team finished second in the premiership. These guys were from within the club. The one thing Kingborough does need is an aggressive will to win at the highest level and not just a 'nice guys' tag or be satisfied to be going through the motions of doing the right thing for everyone at all levels. They also need to identify players who can do a job to the highest standard rather than be happy to fill a hole in a team.

ReplyDeleteAnom 10.35 THE LIONS are the most dissapointing club in the league with there area they can access players from and lets not forgot they merger with calies and what have they won as a outfit in the top league.
ReplyDeleteYou must access a coach outside the normal square you go to results speak for themselves you are a dissapointing club with all you have going for you its that simple and if you dont agree you arent looking at it propely you should be in top three clubs in the state and you are a long way off it.
Anon 10.23 .The comments you refer to are spot on.Kingborough do need someone who can take them to the next level.This does not necessarily HAVE to be someone from outside, but can be someone from within the club that thinks differently from all other within the club.Sometimes hard decisions need to be made to chase success.Kingborough have some very good, loyal decent people at the club. Thios will not win you anything.Changes are needed and sometimes it is easier to find these outside the club.
