Tilford Zebras have formally announced eight new signings on the eve of the Summer Cup competition.

The club have signed three players from Clarence United - Sam McIntyre, Adam McIntyre and Luke Cripps.

Former South Hobart players Liam Scott and Seth Otte have also been signed.

Brett Andrews has joined the Zebras from Kingborough Lions United, while Craig Minty, the New Town Eagles keeper, has also been signed.

To complete the summer signings, Zebras have acquired striker Akuel Guot from First Division outfit Hobart United.

All eight players are expected to be available for selection for Saturday’s opening round of the Summer Cup.

Tilford Zebras begin their Summer Cup campaign on Saturday at Olinda Grove No. 1 ground at noon when they take on Taroona.

  1. Interesting to see Zebras signing so many reserve players what is happeneing to the great young boys they had coming through have they left ?? or are they no longer in the mix, or has a swap been done with clarence???

  2. . Guys we should be strengthening the premier league Not the reserve league . Maybe last years players will have to move on to fit you all in.
Zebras production line of quality youth was once the envy of the league .
Seth would be a senior player at 6 other clubs

"Interesting to see Zebras signing so many reserve players."

Well you can't really judge what squad they will predominately play in can you?

"what is happeneing to the great young boys they had coming through have they left ?? or are they no longer in the mix."

Where in the article did Walter elude to 'great young boys' leaving to prompt you to ask this question?

  4. some very good positional signings!

Who do people think has the best team on paper now?

    Zebras or south???????????????

  5. Zebras will have great depth this year and there will be a huge gap between 2nd & 3rd.

South will be too strong though and will be champions once again.

Zebras should demolish a weak Taroona side who lost to clarnce 7-0. Tipping double figures

  6. Congrates to zebras! Some good signings.

Guot will be useful as he is lightning quick, I cant see many games for seth unfortunatly,Unless he pushes out both engels boys.
Brett always a rock in the middle if they can keep him on the park.

Has anyone moved to knights apart from dawes? I cant see them and Carence at this stage even beating sides like Bachside and kingborough. Still undecided about newtown they need a new fitness coach. Olympic to grind out results finish 4th.

  7. hmmm 1 maybe 2 senior players in that lot.

    Should have good depth though

  8. Apologies i forgot to add Cripps into that frey. Interesting to see how his body goes thought, unfit and ageing.

  9. All this talk of South & Zebras.

Big movers this year will be Eagles and Kingborough.

Borough could well challenge for the title or atleast top 2.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Some are great signings, some arent. Sam Mc in particular is obviously the best, brett andrews provides depth as does otte. The rest are reserves players. Zebras and South have both picked up, it leaves the question has our other big club, Knights, picked up? They want to hope so with the depth Zebras have

  11. Why are people (Metro supporters)writing off Taroona?

They have only lost a few players from last year and have gained a couple from Clarence also.

May have a poor summer cup due to being underdone but come season proper it will be season 09 all over again for Metro

    ReplyDelete
  12. Who have Taroona got from Clarence ? Is there anyone left on the eastern shore ?

    ReplyDelete
  13. I don't know where you get ur info from, but as a club we find that taroona will be the team to beat as they are fit and move the ball well. Metro has change there ways in the way we go about our football and we only take it game by game. It's a long season and any team can win it, but I hope we do.

  14. i dont anyone is writting of taroona let only metro people as far as metro are concern you are favor to win the league and the yard stick so i think you have your facts very wrong

Taroona ,nelson, hobart united and uni will all be hard to beat so even thought taroona are hot favourites there plenty of other in the mixes should make for a good season .

    ReplyDelete
  15. S McIntyre and Liam Scott are the only automatic selections for Zebras starting 11 - Cripps, Otte and Andrews may be on the bench and the rest reserves-bound.

Overall I'd say a slight improvement over last year's list for Zebras (Crosswell big loss). South on the other hand are still quality but definitely diminished from last year. The key for Sth this season will be Kanakaris, Brennan and Lo maintaining a decent conversion rate.

Then the rest of the pack including Kingborough who will improve but wont be challenging for the title IMHO.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Kingborough could push for second but will definitely be top four.

    ReplyDelete
  17. So Liam Scott playing reserves according to you lot??????????HHMMM
    Think not.

    ReplyDelete
  18. My understanding is that Taroona have signed Hoppy and Darbs,

Maybe more.... a loss for Clarence because they are two of the best blokes at the club.

Hope u left on good terms, all the best guys

  19. Well said! Would have had them at the Knights we knew they were looking for a move

  20. can anyone explain what has actually caused the sudden exit of so many players from clarence?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Zebras best team on paper?

    Fagg Smith/Telega/ Scott

    Self Ladic/Andrews Sam mac

    Walsh/Cripps?

    I 2nd this

    ReplyDelete
  23. "can anyone explain what has actually caused the sudden exit of so many players from clarence?"

The reasons are many but the main one is the arrogant leadership at the club. i.e. my way or the highway.
It looks like the highway for the smart ones
The part I can't understand is why Franco stays there. If he wants to develop quality youth then there are plenty of clubs to choose from and if he wants to coach seniors then likewise there are other clubs that would love to have him.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I think its quite obvious, players are leaving Clarence because they just don't like the colours of the strip.

  25. zebras best on paper? More like paper zebras!

  26. Going on last week's Steve Hudson cup game, South Hob's list has an eye to the future:

    Sammy K
    pennicott/brown/ludford/feral

    difalco/huigy/roach/hickey

    caires/kanakaris/lo

    brennan inj

  27. If you want to know why people left Clarence why dont you ask them yourself?? And please dont kid yourself that any of the anonymous "ex clarence players" actually are actually ex clarence players. I just cant wait to see your faces at games this year when the hugely depleted Clarence clean you blokes up and finish top four.

i will swim to the finals in your tears

    boo hoo hoo.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Anon 4:07 , I have asked a couple and they all answered pretty much the same . I think enough has been said on here to indicate the reasons .Anon 3:27 is spot on the money. As for finishing top four, try bottom two .
Your team has struggled with quality players to finish fourth , now they are gone you don't stand a chance .

    ReplyDelete
  29. Did I mention arrogant Clarence people in my previous post.
Your club will weaken by the day as long as people like you remain.

I'm not with Olympia or Nelson, but If I was on the Eastern Shore they would be the only two clubs I would consider being associated with.

    ReplyDelete
  30. anon 4.07pm your reaction is childish to a serious question. cash is not always the answer these days, ill think you will find it hard to find a player these days that gets anymore than rego paid and possibly a pair of boots. it seems that a number of key players have constantly left at a steady flow since 5-6 years ago and now a mass exodus there is obviously a big issue there.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Im tipping big party at Warrior park when Clarence get relegated in 2011. Most likely funded by the Warrior President!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I don't think that party would have to be funded by anyone, plenty of people would pay to be at that party

    ReplyDelete
  33. gee walter and i couldnt get my comment on the blog on sunday re clarence you could re post it .cheers mmm ggg

  34. No club should have to face relegation in Tassie, it is simply too small. Junior players would stay at their club and so the building begins. Yes they will have bad times but the development continues and the club is not punished for building a side. Heres an idea grow the league, good teams will always play well, lesser teams will improve. There are more positives than negatives...

  35. "zebras best on paper? More like paper zebras!"

    Just awful.

  36. Anyone noticed how South Hobart play their three Summer Cup matches at South Hobart and KGV - whilst everyone else plays at North Chigwell and Olinda Grove?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Knights got kicked off there home ground for South Hobart. What a joke

    ReplyDelete
  38. North chigwell is in great shape with the grass cut now I would rate it as top 3 in south

    ReplyDelete
  39. Disgraceful FFT, not suprising either.

    ReplyDelete
  40. "Knights got kicked off there home ground for South Hobart. What a joke"

....or maybe Knights got kicked off their ground for Clarence? FFT obviously havent applied the 'home team concept' to their Summer Cup draw since some teams (e.g. Sth Hob, Zebras)have been named first in all their fixtures.

    Can anyone clarfy why?

    ReplyDelete
  41. February 8, 2011 4:04 PM

perhaps Sth ought to keep an eye on how many players it has in its starting line up. No wonder they won 4-0 ;0)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Last time I heard KGV is in GLENORCHY. Well done FFT.

    ReplyDelete
  43. would have to agree re relegation. Ltn Utd would have been relegated twice but they are building the club and will be a competitive team in a few years lead by their impressive young captain. Would oplayers like this stay if the club were relegated? Maybe Dean May could help them with some coaching?

    ReplyDelete
  44. anon 2:12 you've got to be joking about the launy utd captain. he needs a clip up the ears mate. fair chance he'll get it this year to with an attitude like his

    ReplyDelete
  45. Why are there no games on KGV in rd 2 of summer cup?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Anon 4:04 PM

South Hobart 12 man team....interesting concept

    ReplyDelete
  47. Does anyone know who the clarence signings are . There's meant to be some big ones soon. Clarence won't get relegated don't be silly. There reserves have players to step up. There is alot to be said for the my way or the highway rule. Players did choose the highway but might just get replaced with better players.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I think true to the no relegation concept. launnie united are proof it is beneficial, even though the club is down in slumps (result wise) they are rebuilding, and there are no players from last year who have left the club to play for anyone else! in a state like tasmania, having a larger amount of teams in the premier league could only be beneficial, ie - players standards

    ReplyDelete
  49. YEH KEN MAY LOAN BROWNY SOME OF HIS SURPLUS PLAYERS .CLARENCE HAVE NOTHING DONT BE FOOLED

    ReplyDelete
  50. Anon 6:24pm , meant and might are no substitute for are and will . Clarence area huge chance to go down. Top 4 will be Kingborough , Zebras,South and Olympia in no particular order , bottom two to fight the drop , Clarence and Eagles.

surely you are an eagles supporter to put them 4th.

They are unfit and cant string 2 passes together.
long year for wassy when he comes back.

  53. Hey Walter

How about a club by club ins and out for 2011 season.

    ReplyDelete
  54. We will see when the season starts mate . Clarence have got 3 players to come in. It will be good to see how some teams handle them. There only weakness is at the back but they will have to get through the midfield first .

    ReplyDelete
  55. PLEASE HAVE A LOOK AT CLARENCES WEBSITE AND READ BROWNYS PHILOSOPHY ON WHY PLAYERS LEAVE CLUBS IT WILL MAKE SOME SENSE .NOT

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm not actually an Eagles fan, just that I've seen Beach, they were terrible, Olypia not much better. I can't see Clarence or Knights doing much. So its not that i think eagles are good just the rest look very ordinary.

    ReplyDelete
  57. " The club is bigger than the individual " .Try putting it into practise then . That's one of the big reason players are leaving Clarence , the individual feels he's bigger than the club .

    ReplyDelete
  58. "Clarence United - the Eastern Shore’s only community based Premier League football club"

Is that meant to be provocative? Olympia in 2011 is open to anyone and is attracting not bleeding players.

    ReplyDelete
  59. knights will be rubbish this season, lost two of there better players and havent picked up anyone as dawes is out for the year aparently

    ReplyDelete
  60. beach will prove that you need a new set of eyes by season's end.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Love how so many people are already calling teams good, bad or shite .. not until the home and away season will we see who has what ... in after the first week, 3 x games we will see the depth of the squads as well

    ReplyDelete
  62. a couple of major issues "AB" misses in his very enlightening comments on the Clarence website is that

    a) Torres didn't leave solely because of Kenny Dalglish.

    b) Clarence seem to have lost a lot more than one player.

so really there is no comparison at all between Liverpool and Clarence. One team is about the club and one is about the coach. you choose...

    interesting...

    ReplyDelete
  63. Anon 6:18, spot on... Huge differences.

Ppl are calling the shots very quickly here. Knights garbage? They did lose two good players yes, but who knows who they have signed or not? Jumping to conclusions very quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Word is that the Knights have a Frenchman, who's apparently very good. Also heard he is living with Corey.

I think Nick Harrison is a nice fellow and i think that saying Knights is shite is a bit unfair on him

    ReplyDelete
  65. Anon 6:18 herein lies the problem...he thinks he is coaching Liverpool

    ReplyDelete
  66. Are Liverpool getting relegated as well????
