South Hobart were held to a 2-2 draw by Devonport City at Valley Road on Saturday.
South remain unbeaten in the NPL and it was their second draw.
Devonport will be glad of the draw as it represents further evidence of the halt in their decline this season and keeps them in the top-four (fourth place).
Dylan D’Agostino gave the home side the lead after only 2 minutes, while Colin Innes added the second 5 minutes after the break.
South Hobart are adept at coming from behind and did just that from midway through the second half.
Former Devonport player Adam Gorrie pulled one goal back in the 68th minute, while captain Nick Morton equalised 15 minutes from time to keep the visitors’ unbeaten record intact.
Launceston City held on to second place with a comfortable 4-1 home win over sixth-placed Riverside Olympic.
Thierry Swaby gave City the lead in the first minute but Aidan Sands levelled in the 17th minute.
Swaby restored City’s lead by completing his brace in the 36th minute before Riley Fellows made it 3-1 a couple of minutes before the interval.
Substitute Maxx Rawlings made the game safe by adding the fourth 16 minutes before the final whistle.
Glenorchy Knights clung to third place with a laboured 3-2 win over second-last Launceston United at home at KGV Park.
Bary Karia struck for the Knights after only 11 minutes and Cammron Morris added a second in the 28th minute.
Things then began to go pear-shaped for the Knights as the visitors upped the tempo.
An own-goal by Knights keeper Eisa Azizi about 10 minutes after the resumption put United back into contention.
Joel Sammut’s late strike gave the Knights some breathing space and David Owuso’s goal for the visitors 3 minutes into stoppage time was merely a slight consolation.
Clarence Zebras truly have hit rock bottom.
A third of the way through the season, their statistics sum up the situation: 7 games played, 7 games lost and zero points. They have scored a mere two goals and conceded 25.
It is difficult to see how these two once-notable clubs involved in a merger of convenience are going to dig themselves out of this hole.
They must have gone into this game with some hope, and after a goalless opening half, they could afford to be optimistic. They had hit the bar, but that was as close as they came.
It was all the Lions after the resumption and Noah Mies finally broke the ice 3 minutes into the second half.
Emanual Ponce Farias made it 2-0 in the 54th minute and Clarence Zebras’ dreams were slipping away.
Mies completed his brace midway through the half and substitute Rowan Pitt added the fourth three minutes before the end to completely crush the home side’s dreams.
The Lions are back on course but are still one point outside the top-four,

Three things to takeaway from Valley Rd this weekend;
1. The commentary on the live stream was excellent.
2. C. Bidwell was best on ground but the game turned when A. Walter was introduced off the bench.
3. The miss of the year at 2-0 up cost the Port but Gorrie's goal deflated the Port. They were hanging on in the last 15 min and were lucky to get away with a point.
1 agreed
2 Bidwell was excellent- Walter wasn’t that’s amazing.
3. More dropped points for South can keep dropping them with that forward line.
Interesting comment re South considering they have kicked twice as many goals as Devonport already in one round - 33 to 16...
Agree, the last 20 minutes Devonport looked dead on their feet and if you can’t defend a lead with 5 at the back, seems like they will
Likely be the ones dropping more points.
Interesting comment re south’s forward line. If south's is bad then Devonports is very very bad.
Poor performance by South Hobart. So many basic skill errors and missed passes. They looked very flat. Credit to Devonport who got into their heads with some physical challenges that with another referee would’ve drawn much earlier yellow cards. Devonport second goal was particularly good. But credit to South for fighting back, they need to start matches with much more intensity and then finish them the same way.
Walter, will we get to see a Tassie representative team in any games in the near future, as side from Australia Cup comp? Bidwell and Morton would be an interesting combo up front.
Their womens team isnt as good as Rhodsey was saying ,kick long and hope.
Kenny brought a bunch of forwards and no backs or midfielder.
Early call, be interesting to see your thoughts when arguably the two best midfielder, Lucy and Pishon are back and fully fit playing for South Hobart.
That’s how Ken has always played and apparently not all happy campers in Wsl
