A Korean junior team (under-12s) arrives in Launceston today to begin a series of six matches against Tasmanian youth sides for the Tasko Cup.
The tournament is the brainchild of Korean businessman Solomon Choi, who farms on Tasmania’s North-West Coast.
The 30 Korean players and coaches will travel to Hobart tomorrow for games against local youth teams at South Hobart starting at 2.30pm on both Thursday and Friday.
They will then travel to Launceston and Burnie on the weekend for games against northern junior sides before returning to Korea next Tuesday.
A Tasmanian junior team will leave for Korea on 29 September in a reciprocal gesture to participate in a junior international tournament in early October involving teams from China, Japan, Germany, Korea, and Spain.
Mr Choi hopes that business links between Tasmania and Korea can be forged on the strength of such sporting links.

South Hobart’s promising young defender, Liam Scott, is currently in Adelaide for a trial with A-League club Adelaide United.
The 17-year-old, who has attended Joeys (Australia’s under-17 national team) camps in the past, is also reported to be on the verge of attending trials for the Young Socceroos, Australia’s under-20 national team.

Fourth place in the Premier League soccer competition will be decided this evening at a double-header at KGV Park.
New Town Eagles play relegated University at 6pm, while Kingborough Lions United take on Hobart Olympic at 8pm.
Clarence United are currently in fourth spot, but fifth-placed Kingborough can finish fourth by beating Olympic and thus earn a place in the State-wide final-four series commencing on Saturday, 29 August.
The fourth-placed side will meet Northern Premier League champions Northern Rangers in Launceston.
The other game in Launceston will be between Glenorchy Knights and the team that finishes second in the northern Premier League.
The double-header in the south will feature South Hobart and Riverside Olympic, and Tilford Zebras against the third-placed northern side.
The four winners will meet in the semi-finals and the final will determine the State premiers.

Re the finals series.
I know its mathematically possible for Devonport (2nd) and Prospect (3rd) to switch places, but I hardly see Devonport losing 12 nil to Burnie for it to happen.

Any support the general public would like to extend would be great for Futsal Tasmania.
