Jay Hennicke a world-class act on the Freestyle Football stage

Tasmania free-style footballer, Jay Hennicke, is making a name for himself on the international stage.

Hennicke last week won the 2023@redbullfootball Male Championship in Brussels, Belgium.

Hennicke finished in the top-16 a few weeks prior to this in a competition conducted in Kenya.

He was also recently crowned as the Asia Pacific Champion at a tournament in Japan.

That success qualified him for the 2023 World Freestyle Football Championships in Nairobi, Kenya.

Hennicke has been sponsored by the Australian Futsal Association for the past four years and often trains at the AFA Centre in Goodwood, Tasmania.

Jay’s brother, Manny Hennicke, is a senior goalkeeper with NPL club Clarence Zebras, who he joined last season from Southern Championship outfit, University.

So good to see local recognition of a completely underrated sport that deserves more coverage. The skill and agility of these competitors is insane. Congratulations Jay!

Walter. Your enthusiasm for the game is unequalled. To reference this part of the game, well it’s not really the game. Some of these guys can’t impose the level of skill on n the real game but it should be recognised as a circus act with those involved putting the hard work in. To me you’ve always been parochial to homegrown talent. And rightly so. Thinly veiled bias towards homegrown talent you call it as you see it. The problem with being so isolated as an island colours your efforts as a writer. You should get out more. Watch some games elsewhere regain a proper perspective on what talent really is. It may open corridors for long needed national recognition and future pathways for hidden talent lurking in the npl. For all the football that’s played over the years in Tasmania the representation isn’t commensurate with the rest of the country. I think you’re happy with that lot. Being the underestimated group that in essence has limited opportunities

Anon 0745h- nothing like giving compliments whilst throwing around back hands at the same time. How much time in hours do you propose Walter get out more over a year?

Walter please reduce your island isolation perspective and self fund your travel interstate to higher levels for proper perspective.

Walter please do not deviate to different articles of round ball game unless it involves 90 minutes of football.

Walter Walter walter Take notice of Anon 0745hr he is either Galdalf, Trump or the football god of perspective.

You use a lot of big words but can't string together a coherent argument.

Anon 22:49 not really chastising here or offering preposterous things from Walter. I think there is an element of bitterness because of the lack of recognition of Tasmanian football. Walter writes as he pleases, though I think that the game down there could grow if you just got out of your bubble. It’s hard to report of anything out of plain sight. Not requesting Walter should deviate away from his immediate environs, only suggesting that to move forward and establish tassie football as a reporter, comparisons to better leagues must be made, always. And a pathway for improvement to reach those levels of said better comps can only be established when pathways to catch up are recognised. I suppose the best outcome would be to get a representative team from the state with a few imports would be the only way forward. Simple stuff. Think Mr pless has served his time with aplomb and really whatever decisions to move forward are out of his hands. He’s a reporter not a business man or established manager like Morton. I’d say you’re in the same boat as the ACT and your best talent will be milked away to interstate clubs that could offer a standard of living and wages befitting. I think efforts to go forward seem to whittle away to an apathetic outcome
