South Hobart should stay top of the Championship

Round 4 of the Men’s Southern Championship kicks off tonight with two games scheduled.

League-leaders South Hobart are away to seventh-placed Olympia Warriors at Empire Couriers Park at 8.15pm, while eighth-ranked Clarence Zebras host bottom-side Glenorchy Knights at Wentworth Park at the same time.

I don’t want to be a whinger, but as someone who covers the game and likes to see as many matches as possible, the rostering leaves a lot to be desired.

I can’t be at two places at once and so I have to make a choice.

What I think I will do is watch the first half of one game and then the second half of the other.  They are both on the Eastern Shore, so that makes it a little easier.

I am intrigued at who does the rostering.

South Hobart should be too strong for the Warriors, although the venue is not exactly a favourite one for South.

Clarence Zebras and Knights are both struggling in this league and a draw may well be the result.

Second-placed New Town White Eagles, the champions for the past three seasons, are away against sixth-placed Taroona at Sherburd Park tomorrow [Saturday] at 2.15pm.

In reality, this is also an away game for Taroona.  Their own ground at Kelvedon Park is not ready yet and so they are playing their home matches in Kingston.

This should be a close game and it’s difficult to predict the outcome.

South East United, who are currently third, entertain second-last Hobart City at Sorell tomorrow at 2.30pm and the home team should win comfortably.

Hobart United and University are level on 6 points and they meet at Gunn Oval in Pontville at 2.30pm tomorrow,

There is not much separating these sides statistically so, again, a close tussle can be expected.
