Bit of a sad affair at Darcy Street today. Two sides which are part of the big three in the state playing very ordinary football. Both sides look worse than last season. Neither have any distinct style of play other than lumping it long down the line. Devonport are a complete shambles. No a great indictment of the game in Tassie if that is the best week can offer. I would be shocked if South don't win it and go to the second division. I expect they will be on the end of a handlful of heavy defeats when they get there if they dont improve. Port and Knights will be looking for new coaches at the end of the season the way things are going. Ballatynes recruitment has been terrible and is being found out quickly. Players are leaving Knights in droves and wouldn't be shocked if more leave in the window. Not the club it was in the past clearly

Launnie vs South should be a cracker in a few weeks time!

I attended the South vs Knights game today and enjoyed the quality of football. Both sides played at a quick pace for 90 mins and had some outstanding ball control. Sadly a lot of people involved in the game are very negative and need to think about if they really want to support the sport or not.

Darcy Street looks shocking at present and not conducive to ball-on-deck, free flowing football. South seem to actually play more attractive football away from home from what it looks like.

Croatia lucky it was only 3

All hoped and prayers with Launceston City

Where was Jayden Hey? Don't tell me another player has left during the season?

Considering the new Knights manager has lost eight players from last year’s squad, along with two key players this season due to circumstances beyond his control, I think the future of the team looks very promising. They looked dominant for 50 minutes yesterday, from the first goal South got until the red card, and still managed to create chances even with 10 men. On top of that, the squad has been dealing with a relentless run of injuries all season.

You kidding right? Dominant for 50 minutes, that is probably the worst take I have heard in years. Knights have lost 5+ players ever year for the last 4 season. The fact they replaced majority of the players who left and that it hasn't work out for most of them is more on the coach than anything else. The key players that left, Glover and Morris I take it, Glover quit and Morris was let go by the club. Hardly circumstances beyond control

Go Knights!!! Can't wait to see how the team develops over the season. Come along to support teams, new and established talent, and enjoy the world game people!

The Australian Championship will be played in a cup style. Is that just for the first year? The best clubs in Aus won't be in it like the Australia Cup. Thought it was meant to be a league.

The future of the team is a small handful of academy kids sticking around while they bring in 3/4ths of a new squad in again next year. Rinse and repeat….

Their name is 'Glenorchy Knights' NOT 'Croatia'. Ethnic names were replaced years ago.

Unsure how you'd expect for good football to be played on a dog pitch ? Their surface is not fit for NPL let alone any standard above that, have you tried passing a ball on a surface like that ..? Their facilities are sub standard and the pitch is beyond unacceptable.

Anon 1.01am you must have been watching a knights game from last year mate

The whole concept is washed now. No media coverage. No one interested. 1 team buys a championship to remain relevant. Boring

'no media coverage' meanwhile Laura Davis on the backpage of the Merc today, Southern Cross goes out of its way to pump up a game or two on the sports bulletin during friday night AFL, Andy does a weekly wrap up and every game is streamed live. Swear people expect the thing to be the best thing they've ever seen, its a Tasmanian football league it has always run in cycles.

Sounds like some trying to justify their short comings

Anonymous said...

You serious? The game is done as a state league

Anonymous said...

The official name may’ve changed but it will always be Croatia Glenorchy

Great 90 mins of football. Nice build up from South for the first goal. Knights unlucky with the penalty and a red - I thought it was a red for the dive from Walter….

Anonymous said...

Never said it wasn't going through a down period, just replying to the fact that 'no media coverage' is demonstrably false

My dog loves that dog park. Great venue

Might get some, but it used to get significantly more media coverage than it does presently. Even the social media coverage seems to have gone off a cliff. Nothing gets posted on weekends from the FT run pages anymore. It's certainly fallen a long way from when they used to have Slice of Cheese covering every game with match reports and highlights up from all games on the same day as matches.

As someone who’s involved now and in the slice of cheese days, The media this year is much better than previous years every Monday their review is up from the weekends games, highlights on YouTube for Individual games then the whole leagues for NPL and WSL and then save of the week , Goal of the week for both NPL and WSL the coverage this season in terms of games has been good, Let’s not forget it’s not Optus sports covering it it’s a 8 team league in Tasmania where 500k live not 8 million if you don’t like it go and watch AFL or tennis and stop your moaning.

Anonymous said...

Looked like a dive for mine

Anonymous said...

Bring Slice of Cheese back.

Anonymous said...

No one is expecting Optus and EPL type coverage. People just want the game to stop declining from all perspectives - standards, coverage, opportunities etc. I love the sport. I will continue to support. But you can't deny it's going backwards in our state. Saying things like 'it's not optus' is just a cop out.

Anonymous said...

Not at all, I think the standards you have for a organisation like FT are above what they actually are, back when slice of cheese was around it wasn’t covering WSL either, The league is fine as someone who is involved in it, Grounds are better, More qualified coaches in the state, What more do you want than what we currently have ? We are a tiny state, the only improvement I’d like is live results on DrBL but if you go to YouTube you can see any live game and score line that way in real time so not really a issue.

Agree if it wasn’t for the volunteers photographers etc Walter the game would be in trouble.

We’re are incredibly luck to have Walter and Tanner pretty happy with that !
