Kawasaki Frontale thrash Central Coast Mariners 5-0

Kawasaki Frontale of Japan thrashed Central Coast Mariners 5-0 away in Gosford this evening in a Group H match in the Asian Champions League.

Kawasaki Frontale took the lead in the 8th minute through their North Korean international striker, C Tese, who headed in at the near post from Vitor Junior's cross from the right.

Nick Mrdja had earlier missed a glorious chance for the Mariners when he headed straight at the goalkeeper.

H Taniguchi made it 2-0 in the 22nd minute with a header from a corner, the ball going in off the far post.

Juninho added the third in the 31st minute to give the visitors a convincing lead at the interval.

Second-half strikes by K Nakamura and Renatinho completed the rout, which was the Mariners' worst defeat in the competition.

The Japanese side had slightly the better of possession (51% to 49%) on the evening, and they had 17 shots on goal, five of which were on target, compared to the Mariners' eight shots, six of which were on target.

Kawasaki had 12 corners and the Mariners 4, while the Mariners committed 13 fouls compared to Kawasaki's 11.
