Brazil qualify for South Africa

Brazil qualified for next year’s World Cup finals in South Africa with an excellent 3-1 away win over Argentina in Rosario this morning.

The defeat leaves Argentina in dire peril. They are now not at all certain of qualifying and have some tough matches remaining.

The fate of Argentina coach, Diego Maradona, also hangs in the balance.

Goals by Luisao and Luis Fabiano gave Brazil a 2-0 lead at half-time.

Jesus Datolo pulled a goal back for Argentina with a superb 30-metre strike, but Kaka set up Fabiano for Brazil’s killer third goal.

This match, and last night’s A-League top-of-the-table thriller between Gold Coast United and Sydney FC (Gold Coast won 2-1), were inspirational.

Both games exemplified all that is best in football and were well worth watching.

It’s a pity that only 5,800 were in attendance at the A-League match.
