Bottom-side Christian United moved to within a point of second-last Northern Suburbs DOSA when they won their Division One clash 7-5 at the Showground yesterday.
The match featured four penalties - two to each side - and DOSA had four players booked and Christian one.
Stephen Swift headed DOSA in front from John Visentin’s cross in the 13th minute, while a Mark Wakefield penalty made it 2-0 after 18 minutes.
When Jayden Hey added DOSA’s third in the 26th minute, it appeared all over for Christian, but the visitors hit back through goals by Ashley Page, in the 35th minute, and Leno Taglieri four minutes later to put them just a goal behind at the break.
A penalty converted by Matthew Sly in the 56th minute made it 3-3, while another goal by Wilson Lumago, who was clearly off-side, put Christian ahead for the first time.
Another penalty by Matthew Sly in the 69th minute put Christian 5-3 in front before John Visentin netted from Derrick Parry’s cross to put DOSA back in contention.
Angus Livingston restored Christian’s two-goal buffer 11 minutes from the end, but Wakefield netted his second penalty of the match 8 minutes from time to make for a tense ending with Christian leading 6-5.
Tim Wierenga headed home a Taglieri cross in the 84th minute to seal Christian’s win.
Sly and Wierenga had further chances for Christian but were denied by an excellent save from DOSA keeper Justin Farrugia and the woodwork, respectively.
Page hit the DOSA woodwork yet again for Christian in the closing minutes.

A goal fest indeed and a good win for Christian - but wasn't Matthew Sly sent off in last weeks game against Taroona?
Probably something to do with the out of sequence game I'd suggest? Refereeing was ordinary for 95% of the game but still had no impact on the result, but considering it was the only game of the day (Div1+) you'd think we'd be able to get at least a couple of competent referees.
wishful thinking I know.
cheers
who was the referee?
I agreed I had a ref who let 2 goal in when a player was gaining advantage, I told him as I am a qualified ref my self and he just put his face down, shocking. it make the goal score much different with an extra two goals
I feel for you Wiggo - I've seen the ref in the photo.
As for the suspension - unless it was overturned FFA say "the next following Match(s) in which his or her Team participates".
FFT is a little different saying a player must miss "the equal amount of games as the player’s suspension allocated, and the round of matches for that week has been fully completed".
Interesting interpretation (if the send-off did stand) with the state body overriding the federal.
My first visit to the grounds .
Next time I see the RAST CEO I'll ask if they have a mower.
I think the first photo showing Matthew Sly's elbow raised to the head of the DOSA goalkeeper says 1,000 words!
Most refs were at the Hobart Carnival freely donating their time to this impt tournament.
Captain that don't make them a better Referees. arrogance is the worth part of it. some of them are bad referees full stop. you may not like my comment but that is how it is
"worst part of it"? - yeah I was commenting more on Walter's observation in the above article on same game.
Interestingly enough, the result has been changed to a 3-0 win for DOSA.... perhaps someone wasn't meant to play?
