Wellington Phoenix beat Newcastle Jets 1-0 away in Newcastle this afternoon.
It was Phoenix’s first away win in 12 games, a run that stretches back to last season.
The win leaves Wellington in fifth place on goal-difference, while the Jets stay second-last.
A 14th-minute goal by Paul Ifill settled the match, while Ben Sigmund was excellent at the back for the visitors.
The game was played in a temperature of 38 degrees Celsius, necessitating regular drinks breaks, and only 4,239 showed up to watch, which was the Jets’ lowest-ever attendance.
