South Hobart complete pre-season double over Beachside

South Hobart beat Beachside 3-1 at Wellesley Park this afternoon.

This was the return match from last weekend, when South won 10-2.

Ken Morton was away in Melbourne for the weekend, but his young charges again did well after trailing to a Colin Wain goal at the interval.

Wain is, incidentally, a former South Hobart player.

Second-half strikes from Jai David, Elliott Lovell and Cameron Williams gave South their win.

Beachside were without Ben and Sam Crosswell, who were both unavailable, while they had to borrow South Hobart’s under-19 goalkeeper as Alex Bigg and Michael Soszynski were also unavailable.

Beachside’s Luke Atkin was carried off after twisting a knee in the first half.

Beachside coach Nathan Robinson said he hoped it was nothing more than a strain but the player was carried to the dressing rooms at the interval on a stretcher.

“It’s mainly about fun at this stage and winning is not the top priority in these practice games,” said Robinson.

“Playing practice games is a better way to get new players to the club than just training sessions.”

Greg Downes, who celebrated his 17th birthday today, completed another successful game in his comeback from a broken leg sustained last season.

good to see the bouncing work shep has been doing has kept him in dual vic tuting form. the cop force has also kept robbo in fair nick. has jirk gadd's form in the black and white relegated him to doing practise matches?

whatever your on laserbeak, pass it round. transfers for south hobart seem to put them on track for back to back to back titles, with former eagles/metro/knights young gun, shane "not terry" kent, jade "made from" clay from knights, and possibly 2 lapollas from zebras

bulis seems to be going back to clarence as he was jealous at missing out on silverware this year

also big news for the betting man- the womens premier league title for 2030 contention is already under way. big name players jayden wiggins, mathew sanders and josh fielding celebrated the arrivals of their brand new baby daughters this year, as well as the inclusions of ben peters and jackson marsh arrival of their girls in the new year, provides a massive starting block for glenorchy knights in the future. i'd chuck a benjamin on that

Don't know where you are getting your information from eightball but I have it on good authority that Bulis is moving to melbourne shortly, hence he will not be playing at all next year. Makes me wonder if your other information has any credibility.....

Good to see your back Eightball, always miss ur posts

eightball said...

why does anonymous have so many posts?? obviously bulis is not moving to melb. for soccer coz the only thing lacking credibility is his finishing. his aerial ability goes alright though. don't you worry bout my contacts

Coxy said...

signing dont always make a premiership team eightball. dont think you would see lapolla's in a south shirt either any time soon...but good to see some far fetched rumours comng out

snookered said...

Shane 'i'd play for a pie' Kent can hit a ball, but will he be able to get to one after the festive season?!?

eightball said...

cheers coxy- but with south already boasting one of the top teams in the state on paper, having a bit more depth ( or widthe with kent for example) in their lineup then i'm sure it wouldn't hurt. without nick lapolla at the helm, expect a couple of young players at zebras having to earn their spot now with fred. best of luck to bulis, another fine calibre player leaving the state

Coxy said...

the young players are more than capable of playing at premier league level for zebras this year. arsenal of tas

eightball said...

thats right arsenal- so good for most of the season, then crumble when it matters. i'd like to know who you think their van persie, nasri and fabregas are?? none? sure

eightball said...

and walter i was looking at a long article the other day and it had some team of the decade. i would also be interested to know your idea aswell i'll tell you mine if you tell me yours

Interesting said...

Eightball ,what do you mean by your comment that now that N Lapolla is not there ,some young players will need to earn thier place?

eightball said...

interesting- what does it sound like i'm implying? obviously zebras didn't win last year and frediani is going to come in with high standards, maybe some of the players won't be able to ride on the coat tails of past coaches and players success at the club.. don't get me wrong lapolla as a junior was a jet, but he needs size now. he's got the skill and the pace, but i want him to be able to compete with the prouds, wass's and the dogga browns of the league. fennel/cox/walsh to name a couple. all great juniors but they need to step up in pullens/falzons exit. telega and smith are on the wane. henry fagg is taking his game to a new level though

While I have little doubt that none of these rumoured player transfers will eventuate, I wonder why anyone think that they'd break into South's senior side in 2010 - they may all be fair players but it could just be a passport to Premier Reserves football- at least there's a fair chance of silverware with South winning the last 3 or 4 ressies titles!

James Sherman has been training with South 2 times a week I've heard.

Interesting said...

Eightball ,you make an interesting comment !!!!!
"...but I want him to compete with the Prouds,Wass's and Dogga Browns. " Mate ,these guys are twice the size and weight. In what way would you like him to compete ? He is never going to be the size of these guys.Pretty silly comment really ,in my opinion.
Can I also ask ,why would YOU like him to compete ? Are you involved with them?
Dont disagree with your comments regarding other players either.
There are many others that need to step up to remain in , or to make the senior squad.

eightball said...

tut tut 9ball did you also hear about the one where someone couldn't come up with their own name. so we're all in aggreance sherman is training 9 times a week at 4 different clubs. i'm not doubting south's strength. they are recoginsed poachers we all know so if there is a player they want i'm sure they'll get him.

eightball said...

interesting- you asked me who i was talking about. i said that lapolla and others can't just come into the team because their old man coaches. you asked me you don't have to agree but don't dis other comments if noone else is going to make tough calls on the blog

Interesting said...

Eightball ,I asked you , why would you like him to compete with the emphasis on YOU ? Are you involved at the club ? I did not ask you , who you were talking about.
I also stated that I did agree with your other comments.

eightball said...

no i am not involved with any lapolla or zebras. i am involved with a club but am not biased towards skill or my team. we have weaknesses also. if you want i can address issues with each club in the premier league. i would like to raise a couple of points but only if they going to be taken seriously

KEVIN MCALISTER said...

eightball i would love to hear your thought, i think you have raised some positive and negative issues, i do agree with your assesments of a couple of the zebras players who need to step up this year, big loss jade clay is for knights to but im sure with janko back he will make up for his loss and plus the additions of a couple of handy ressie players like matthew russel and robi bolonja they will be fine

Krauser said...

So fennel and coxy weren't even here last season and walshy hit 20 odd goals.... interesting view.

eightball said...

krauser? more like kramer!! he hit 15 last year, the one man wrecking crew cripps hit 25. crosswell scored 18 for zebras but where are you going to find those goals or another player of his credibility. for an up and coming player like walsh, who is meant to be getting trials wherever- thats not enough.

speaking of cripps and his squad, clarence need another striker, to take the burden off the importance of him scoring every week.

a keeper would also be handy, benny peters may be looking for a new home back to his old team if he is unable to get into the knoughts squad. and if andrew brown's head doesn't explode with all the kudos bestowed upon him, clarence could go well in the league next year.

Hi, I actually posted this yesterday as a response to a January blog about Billy Gasparinatos. And I thought maybe because that article was so outdated it would get lost there?
This is an update Dec 2009, regarding Billy. I've also included this time around a youtube video link with Billy scoring which I forgot to do in my other post.

Oakleigh Cannons V Hume City 1st Half Highlights VPL

Billy Gasparinatos Nov 2009 Update:
Billy Gasparinatos played in the Oakleigh Cannons U21 (Reserves) in the 2009 VPL season. He scored quite often, but unfortunately this did not seem to help. An invite into the 1st team alluded him.

The same thing happened with many of the young players with coach John Anastasiadis determinedly choosing a similar, older more experienced first 11 week after week. The Cannons finished a disappointing middle-order 7th.

The Cannons U21 side also finished a disappointing 7th.
Goals: Of the 44 total goals awarded them for the season, my unofficial guess is that Billy Gasparinatos scored about 10 of these. The other top goal scorer with approximately the same number would have been Arthur Papadopoulus. A smattering of goals by George Lambadaridis, Lukas Pedder, Dean Panagopoulus, Nicholas Kokolakis, Peter Sawan & Narek Papazyan accounted for the rest.

Goal Assists. Billy Gasparinatos was also prominent, as were midfielders George Lambadaridis, Lukas Pedder & Nicholas Kokolakis.

Billy Gasparinatos played a striker/forward role. It is my opinion that the style of play approached by the Cannons U21 side did not suit Billy. He was quite often delivered a long ball and had to fight 3 to 4 defenders on his own. He is strong and has good feet skills and can turn an opponent, but like I say, the odds were stacked against him.

8balls, apparently Cam Sweeney (former TIS 'keeper) looking for more opportunity than available at South is now training with Clarence who need to replace a retired Mos - not sure he's up to Premier League to be honest but everyone's got to start somewhere. IMHO Crippsy doesnt need his load lightened - half his goals last year were made by Andy Barron's running which put the frighteners up most defences - unfortunately Andy couldnt find the onion bag too often sacrificing himself on the altar of the LOAF!

speculative, you should change your name to the preacher man. there are many players that go un-noticed in this league, but are highly praised from within their club. on the other hand, and i haven't heard much about this young keeper, but there are quite a few players in the premier league that go missing, and are filling the spaces on the team sheet
