Mariners beat Jets in 20th A-League match between the sides

Central Coast Mariners ended their long winless streak when they beat Newcastle Jets 3-0 at Bluetongue Stadium in Gosford this evening.

The match had been postponed on Saturday because of heavy rain and a waterlogged pitch.

Newcastle clinched sixth place on the A-League ladder despite the loss, while the Mariners are seventh.

Nigel Boogaard headed the Mariners into the lead from a corner in the 17th minute.

Adam Kwasnik lobbed the keeper after a fine through-ball in the 50th minute to make it 2-0 for the home side.

Brad Porter should have added a third in the 55th minute, but his shot hit the crossbar.

Newcastle’s hopes of getting back into the match were dashed with the dismissal of Labinot Haliti in the 56th minute after he collected a second yellow card.

Matt Simon made it 3-0 in the 72nd minute from substitute Brody Smith’s low ball across the box from the right.

The Mariners had Predrag Bojic sent off two minutes from the end.
