Manchester United easily against Inter Milan

Manchester United breezed into the quarterfinals of the European Champions League with a comfortable 2-0 win over Inter Milan at Old Trafford this morning.

Inter slipped out of the competition with a whimper rather than a bang.

A Vidic header from a Giggs corner after just three minutes put United ahead, while Ronaldo made it 2-0 from Rooney’s cross four minutes into the second half.

O’Shea, Berbatov and Ronaldo should have added to the score, but Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar denied them.

Inter hit the woodwork through Ibrahimovic and Adriano, and Van Der Sar turned Stankovic’s shot wide, but they seemed strangely lethargic and were unable to claw their way back into the match.

United’s Scholes was allowed to do what he wanted in midfield, where Inter’s Vieira was disappointing and was substituted at the break.

Inter’s desperation was shown when they brought on veteran Figo late in the match. He was hardly likely to retrieve the situation.

Barcelona beat Lyon 5-2 at the Nou Camp to progress 6-3 on aggregate.

Porto and Atletico Madrid drew 0-0 in Portugal, which means that Porto progress on the ‘away goals’ rule, having drawn 2-2 in the first leg in Madrid.

Arsenal made the quarterfinals after beating Roma 7-6 in a penalty shoot-out in Rome. Roma won the game 1-0, which made it 1-1 on aggregate, thus necessitating extra-time, which ended goalless.

wrong - was not an 'easy' win - inter had plenty of qaulity opportunities also.

Hi Anonymous. Perhaps you're right. I guess it could have been 5-2, or 6-3!
