Well played today Hobart United, unfortunately, Metro were outclassed. Peter Otto in particular had a blinder.

TAROONA!

the 'better coach' didnt seem to have much influence today. didnt see much possession play for the blue & gold today.

a few scrappy plays saw easy chances missed tho - so only themsleves to blame!

congratulations Taroona.

Well done to the boys of Hobart United. Nice ending to the season, last yrs champions deciding who wins the championship this year!

Well done Taroona great to see home grown talent triumph over "imports". They desire the promotion, they play fair and not once have I heard them use foul language, unlike other teams.

Man of the match for me was United's Peter Otto.

Congratulations Taroona, hard work and loyalty paid off in the long run. Congratulations also to Hobart United on a great end to the season. Peter Otto played an absolute blinder today. There's only so much Ricky Orr can do with a long ball but he played his heart out yet again and can hold his head up high. Good luck Ricky where ever you end up next season. 'Lucky' that red card got overturned so you are still in the running for the B&F at the vic tuting.

The celebrations at the end were also fantastic - thanks to the United boys for letting us join their circle and try to sing the club song.

Well done to Hobart United yesterday and congratulations on Taroona on your elevation to the Premier League. Make sure you do everything you can now to not just be a dweller at the bottom of the league but rise up the table.

Well done to Metro on your efforts throughout the year and lets continue to build the club up through the advancement of our youth and get back up there into the Premier League and have a few more clashes with Taroona in that league.

Not well done to the few morons that believe they have a place at Metro FC and clearly showed after the game with their disrespectful comments that they dont. People that have been at any club somewhere between 2 and 5 minutes really don't have too much idea what goes on and we will be glad to see the back of them.

To those people, before you leave have a talk to the people that care about this club and unfortunately for you, it will become quite obvious that Metro "lost their spirit" the day Darin Chaffey got the sack as coach.
Blame no body else except the people responsible for that.

Reserves Metro player Jamie Bingham to the Beachside reserves players there after metro dropped thier first title of the day - "At least we will be playing premier league next year."

Something about counting and chickens and hatching?

Congrats to Ben Horgan and the hard working Taroona club players and members.

Metrofan,
May i remind you that the person or people you are blaming for not finishing on top of the ladder has done more for Metro and Football and you can ever think of doing.
If it wasnt for one of those persons you would not be able to sit in the back corner near the bar with your little group of mates telling each other how good you are.
The trips away for junior members that you made a comment about in a previous post was instigated by the same person.
Also no doubt there are many players in the club over the last few years that have recieved game day awards, once again instigated by the same person.
Might i also add that the same person over the last 20 years has stood by the club and never walked out when decisions have been made unlike other people involved in the club over the last 18 months.
Get a grip on reality and have a look at the bigger picture and you might realise how stupid your comments are.

Jrad said...

Carbo,

you obviously don't see the EMails or Facebook comments from players about what they think of the damage that was done earlier in the year. I assume you are one of the fly by nighters who have been at Metro for 2 minutes or a regular that has been told what to say. You wont see any more comments from me on here because in the whole scheme of things I'm about as irrelevant as you are other than to say get your head out of the obvious place. If you are permitted to without upsetting the people that you answer to, talk to the players. Also talk to the players that have left the club and ask them why, or is that too close to home ????

What were Metro thinking sacking Chaffey, pretty obvious things turned to crap from there. Performances speak for themselves.

Don't want to stick my nose in where it doesn't belong, but I can't understand why you would appoint a man like Nicholson for the job. I played with the guy, he wasn't a bad defender, but he was what we call in scotland a gnyaff or a poisoned dwarf. Very much affected by the small man syndrome. He wouldn't be my first choice as a strong leader.

metrofan totally agree with you mate, all you have to look at is the players who have played at metro since 2000 but left the club and if they were still at the club it would of won alot of premier leauge titles by now, the list goes on and on

metro fan ,carbo are you on the same side .lots of good points by both .metro fan who are you blaming for yet another metro failure obviously not a fan of the import policy when you mention anvancement of youth .dont blame the sacking of chaf for non promotion as much as disruption due to wet grounds and lost momentum.metro fan you are right about the players that have left the club .have a look at the clarence div 3 team ,won a title today have a look at the ex metro contingent full of life members/ most distinguished players/ best and fairests and maybe carbo is right too some degree also have a look where these players kids are playing .metro need a good cleanout no disrespect to the person you mention carbo but with the area metro has to work with its just same old year in year out .young andrew robb was playing seniors at 15 years old last year where is he now .any way maybe metro needs to get back some of those peopl that made metro respected for their never die attitude and see that filter through the club.

just a note walter well done to clarence div 3 team won the league today .not bad when you consider average age around 45 .most of that team will be representing tassie at the world masters games in sydney in october looking forward to some fierce competition .should be a great experience . go tassie.thanks walter

hi guys I know it is not of my business but the coach is not the one to blame. the player attitude is, getting big heads. trust me as a Hobart united member the coach did very little but the morale of the players attitude speak loud and show how they turn things around, you may think i dribbled but talking to some key player. I knew they where the ones to make the difference, the coach can tell them how to play but it is the player who go and make the difference and when team looses a lot of people like to blame thing onto other. just grow up and let the game go on. remember the player are to blame for

Congratulations to taroona on a hard fought promotion!
I think you will be able to mix it in the premierleague with ur talent coming through.
Ur facilities is a different story and i think some serious action should be taken before next year...

Ril said...

reality2, obviously you're involved or associated with Clarence Spirit.. As a keen follower of all the leagues, I was surprised to see them drop from Div 2 to Div 3 this year after finishing in the top 3 in Div 2 (mainly as premiers?) for the past three years. What was the reason for that? Concerned about the other teams coming back from Div1?

stains said...

Ril, I too was perplexed at clarence spirit's decision on dropping out of div 2. Yes maybe they were worried about not adding to their trophy cabinet with the demotion of some div 1 sides and the hastily "thrown" together side and evental champs glenorchy knights.

horror movie said...

ril and stains mm sounds like a tv show .anyway in response to your comments there is not as much in the trophy cabinet as you suggest but you are right after years of chasing kids around we thought it wise to maybe have a bit of fun but we ended up chasing kids in div 3 anyway .thanks for the congrats fellas cheers ps you are welcome to join us next year

The turn around of Hobart United is due to the hard work of Mark Broadbent. After losing most of the team from last yr and as some of those people returned Mark adapted his plans and worked tirelessly on how the team played. It didn't help that the younger players were forced to play 3 games a day at times. I think a lot of coaches could learn a lot from Mark if they can keep their ego's in check. Congrats to Taroona and unlucky to Metro, they played well all season. Watch out for United next yr.

nuff those kid where not force to play that many games, they where committed to support 100 per cent. those kid where going to be the future of Hobart united, and I feel Proud of those kid

Great battle for the promotion spot. good luck to taroona next year, it looks like they won the league without any new signings. hopefully we'll have close competition between university, metro, beachside and hobart united in div 1 in 2010.

Anonymous said...

Do you reckon all those kids at Metro are going to stick around for a second year? For the sake of their development I hope they move to another club to challenge themselves, playing in Division 1 isn't going to help them much.

Captain said...

Chalky, where do the young kids go???? There's only 8 Premier League teams. If you look at most of those teams their reserve sides are full of good young players.

Div 1 sides need to be able to provide good development for these kids.

Anonymous said...

What I was getting at is that if these boys are good enough then they should try to challenge themselves at higher level.

Two years in Division 1 where the league only has 3 decent teams is not going to make them better, but only hold them back. If they are good enough they will get a game at another club, simple!

A couple of boys from Metro are now valued members of Glenorchy Knights - had the pleasure of playing with young Andrew Robb this year who won our reserves best and fairest - he's an example of what can happen when you put talent and hard work together.

Pixel 40 said...

Chalky23 If Those kids stay with metro they will be the one to see the club go to premier but. but if they hung around people like you discriminating the Firth division, not only the Div 1 competition will be crap but the premier league as well as with out pressure to premier no need to worry about but Nelson did course some worries against Taroona and Metro not mentioning Hobart United who did well at the last min of the competition and all to the half decent player quality. you should be pushing for those kid to be loyal and stay at the club instead of push to discourage, it is my mind and comment, hope you don't get offended as it is not my intention

Anonymous said...

I understand your point of view Pixel40. Club loyalty is all well and good and I support that notion normally, but when you are trying to lift the standard of the premier competition and the overall level of Football in Tasmania, the best young players need to be playing at the highest level - thus, if the metro (any clubs for that matter) kids are good enough they should step up, or at least do a pre-season with a Premier League club to gauge where they are at.

The overall Division 1 standard is still below par. Apart from Taroona, Metro and Beachside, the talent is severely lopsided. It is good to see clubs like Nelson and Hobart United putting up a contest once in a while, but let's be honest these teams have been handed a thumping quite a few times this year. There is still a big gap, but with clubs like Nelson developing their youth and putting in hard work, hopefully the standard will rise.

thank Chalky23 that is more realistic comment, let hope div one can make a difference, as is hard to recruit player in this league
