Division One outfit Beachside hit pay dirt today when they beat Premier League newcomer Taroona 6-2 at Sandown Park in a pre-season friendly.
Bernhard Klasen hit a hat-trick, while the other goals came from Colin Wain, Colin Shepherd and Sam Howarth.
Wain had played for South Hobart’s reserves earlier in the afternoon and scored four goals in an 11-0 win.
Taroona replied through Alex Edwards and Sam Ryan.
Brett Pullen has signed for Beachside and was in outstanding form, while his Zebras team-mate, Patrick Dunne, has also joined Beachside and played today.
“Brett Pullen was exceptional today,’ said Beachside coach, Nathan Robinson. “His passing and his change of pace were a class above.
“It was our sixth practice game and the guys have worked really hard and it all clicked today.
“It was a well-deserved result and everything fell into place.
“It was really positive for us after a couple of hammerings from South Hobart in earlier practice matches.”

Haha, Taroona back to div 1 very quickly & I can see many thrashing's this coming season.
maybe div 2
more like Beachside to dominate Div 1 - with a bunch of oldies.
Any future there?
and yes, Taroona will struggle. Just don't know what the ha ha is about unless you are a Metro boy.
Cahill
Beachside won't even win Div 1, they can't pull it together when it counts...
Beachside look old enough to be some of the Taroona boys fathers :-)
Looked like Taroona had a very young team down there and they only lost 1-0 to a late Clarence goal the week before.
Summer cup and friendlies probably too early to make predictions.
watched knights play nelson today not much of a game, knights won 7 or 8 -1, not a great standard. The knights only had two real players in Fielding and Holmes dominating play while Clay and White were ok in stages. Smithers awaste of time on the field, found his best postion on the bench for half the game.
the score was 6 to 2 in the knights/nelson match, 1-1 in the
2nd half. so i don't know what you were watching anonymous.
Beachside wins Div1 with no doubt quality players and promoted to premier league next season. Then what with no junior structure and under 19s.Think they need to plan, actually needed to plan.To late now.
fair enough Michael I wasn't keeping count, thats what the player were saying i'll take your word
whats going on with Uni very quite
Great to see so many comments re a Div 1 team and a newly promoted Prem Team. Beachside showed that a bit of age and experience can still be used in our great game, too many top flight teams have forgotten that, Taroona looked a bit that way, very young some could play a bit but no "general" and honestly didn't see a lot of leadership on or off the park, this game is 80% in the head once your talking and giving positive instruction etc it's amazing what you can get out of people.. As far as next year promotion and all that gee it's a bit early but yep Beachside are going to be good to watch and take it from me they will only get better...
Brett Pullen was very good today.
He also took time to say a few encouraging words to an obviously young Taroona keeper.
Great to see
Thanks
Surely with the likes of pullen and shepard, beachside would be a very attractive team for a young player to go to? Surely the knowledge these 2 and other experienced players at this club could offer a junior would be priceless.
Nelson like a few others in the div 1 league are just making up the numbers this year.
good point, wheres uni?
quietly falling apart I reckon
So what if Beachside do win D1?
Many are at Beachside because they don't want to play Premier anymore. What then?
Who is coming through? Last years U19's were poor. where are th youth teams?
so nights were up 5 1 in first with cory no good then he goes on the bench and it ends up 6 2. looks like cory was doin ok.
if half the players for knights played bobbins and they won 6-2 i wonder what the score would of been if they had all played well
does anybody ever have anything nice at all to say on this blog walter get rid of this blog
homer your portraying yourself as homer but you want to say nice things. bit ironic?? leave this blog to the big boys
Having watched the game there was some great patches of play by both teams, Beachside however clearly used the ball much better and were physically much stronger in possession of the ball.
It was good to see some of Taroona's young players having a run, having known and even coached a couple of them in the distant past it was great to see how far they have come.
It is dispointing to read some of the rubbish people post on this blog when some good positive discussion and involvement would see the sport and clubs go much further.
Perhaps Walter if people won't put their names to posts when they are doing nothing but slagging someone or a club off you should just delete them?
Junior development is an issue with most clubs, particularly as it is difficult to get club members who are there to play to give up even more time to take on coaching, managing and positions on boards when for most people we already have very busy lives.
Every club has those who will come just to play, those who put in more time than they should and a lot of people who do as much as they can within the limitations of their own lives outside the club.
One of the challenges for FT is to find a way to support clubs establish manageable systems for youth development that clubs can adopt without making them cost and resource prohibitive.
Sorry for the long post but there was so much rubbish that needed some sort of response. Over all I enjoyed watching some really good football and look foward to much more.

The knights didn't have it all there own way, Nelson were ok in patches, if they keep their young players coming through look out over the next few seasons for huge improvements. Also most of the goals came when corey was on the bench, If i remember right they took Fish and Clay off then the game went scrappy and the knights players started to go for the man and not the ball so the ref blew the whistle early to stop someone getting hurt.
i can't wait fr the season to start so we can sto all the mindless publishing of nowhere teams and concentrate on the real matter of the premier league. yes there a re a couple of characters in div 1 we like to talk about- sheppie, crossa, and pullen wow pfft, but we are forgetting the young talent playing in the spl. taroona are gone, so these games their playing could be beneficial to them by playing teams worse than them. or sure go to the north for their comp and get so punished, the kids will come back crying to mum wanting to play another sport.
but chris i agree, walter stop anonymous comments please. i get dizzy with the faeces dribbling from their keyboards
well said chris it gets a bit like facebook on here sometimes but it's an open forum I guess.
comments re beachside holding the ball and looking more physical and definetly more experienced than Taroona. interesting that the match at sandown looked like it was played on the small ground.
your an ideas man Robbo!
so much rubbish talk about pre season games, should only judge teams after the season is a few games in.
precisely bruno that is what i was saying. at the very least we could be blogging about the important, up and coming teams and players like clarence and knights. corey did look over the hill, good to fishy lost none of his vic tuting form, and the youngsters performing including j. marsh's hatrick against his fromer associates. whats the go with goran playing. is he back for good from vic?? 8-1 was probably not enough with the shermans and gorans and marsh, fishy, clays that they had
5-2 i mean
The knights shouldn't have played both Shermans and Goran because they are going to England and Melb, Better off testing some young blood for who will be playing with them all season.
Bruno and eightball - we could take your argument further and just say to wait until the end of the season to judge.
Taroona looked good in patches but are really going to struggle like they did two years If they dont find a decent keeper.
Maybe Mckenna could get fit and help them again?
fielding and holmes knights best? which game did you watch? huigsloot and marsh were the best by a country mile and many knights players looked un-interested and bored.
is eightball fielding?
I think he's batting
Some of you were asking about the Uni club so I will give you a brief outline of what is happening, mainly because I don't know it all.
Training for the senior teams is (div 1 and reserves) is going quite well, only averging about 15 to 20 people at each training but rotating between 30 to 40 guys so should be able to cover those teams.
The problem as it was last year is the U19's, they are trying to organise a team with players in first year of uni who just want a to play in a social team and are still eligible for U19s. Not too sure how well this will work out because most people who are 18 or 19 don't want to play 19s anyway.
And for those of you who say they aren't looking to the future by playing people who wouldn't be able to play the following year in the 19s league, they are currently training an U14s side run by Scott (senior coach last year) so it is looking ok for uni at the moment. In a few years will hopefully be back in the premier league.
be carefull what you say walter is taking away freedom of speech! even if your are a anon.
hahaha look how much people are analyzing the nelson knights game. do you really think the knights players could be bothered, it was like playing at training against their own reserves

I'm not taking away freedom of speech at all.
If you resort to gutter language and traduce people, then don't expect to have your utterances posted on here.
You can always create your own blog site and you won't have to use or read this one. That means you'll have freedom of speech.
Walter agree with you 100%.
