Gold Coast United 0-0 Adelaide United: Status quo maintained after goalless draw

Adelaide United remained third and Gold Coast United fourth on the A-League ladder when the sides played out a goalless draw before a disappointing crowd at Skilled Park on Wednesday night.

It was a repeat result of their meeting four months ago.

Gold Coast, already without injured Socceroo and captain Jason Culina, suffered two more blows in this match. Bruce Djite limped off after just 25 minutes with a leg injury, while John Curtis was stretchered off and had his neck in a brace after a terrible 76th-minute collision with Paul Reid, who was shown the red card.

Adelaide almost took the lead late in the first half when Marcos Flores and Matthew Leckie combined to set up Sergio Van Dijk, but Kristian Rees blocked the shot and goalkeeper Glenn Moss dealt with the follow-up effort.

Joel Porter was denied by Eugene Galekovic in the 51st minute, while seconds later, a goalmouth scramble after a corner saw Adelaide survive narrowly.

Minutes earlier, Galekovic had done well to save from Adama Traore.

Travis Dodd missed a golden chance for Adelaide from Iain Ramsay’s service in the 64th minute.

With four minutes remaining, Tahj Minniecon missed an open goal for Gold Coast United.
