Devonport City can all but retain their NPL Tasmania
title tomorrow by winning at home at Valley Road against second-last Riverside
Olympic.
A win would put them 9 points clear of
second-placed Olympia Warriors.
With both sides then having played the same
number of games, Devonport’s superior goal-difference would all but give them
the title with 3 games remaining.
And, Olympia could be docked 3 points after playing
an ineligible player in the 3-1 win over South Hobart.
Olympia have appealed, but if the appeal fails,
Devonport would be champions regardless.
Fourth-ranked Hobart Zebras visit Lightwood
Park tonight for the game against sixth-ranked Kingborough Lions United.
It should be a close contest, with both sides
having beaten each other in the two previous league meetings this season.
This will be Zebras’ central defender Jan
Charuza’s final game in Tasmania before he returns to Europe.
Defender Riley Dillon still has a week of his suspension
to serve.
“We
were poor last time we came off the bye and need to be switched on from the off
to take anything out of this game,” said Zebras coach, David Smith.
“Kingborough,
under Jez Kenth, have been very well organised and have played to their
strengths.
“They
were much too good for us at KGV last time we played.
“We
struggled to play through their press and the front 3-4 caused us all sorts of
problems.
“We
will go in as underdogs and need to reproduce the first-half display we showed
against Olympia if we want to get anything out of this game.”
Glenorchy Knights welcome Launceston City to
KGV park tomorrow for a 4.15pm kick-off.
Knights will be without defender Sam James, who
has a leg injury.
His likely replacement is Luke Warrener.
On Sunday, third-placed South Hobart should
hammer home the goals against bottom-side Clarence United at 2pm at South Hobart
Oval.
