The Southern Championship League Cup competition seems to have flown under the radar.
As far as I know, there have been two games played.
Yesterday, Taroona beat University 5-2 at KGV Park, while last Wednesday, South Hobart defeated Olympia Warriors 3-2 at Empire Couriers Park.
Alexander Brown, Yuri Ware and Samuel Lancaster were South Hobart’s marksmen, while Anthony Mamic and Jonte Banks replied for the Warriors.
University led Taroona 2-0 at half-time last night, both goals coming from George Ivanov.
His second has been rated by some as a contender for goal of the season.
Apparently, he beat one defender and curled the ball in from the side-line and over the goalkeeper from about 40 metres.
University rotated their squads for this game and they fell apart in the second half, with Taroona scoring five goals without reply.
Toby Fleming and Ramiro Vilar each scored a brace for Taroona, while their other goal came from Noah Gardner.
The Championship League Cup continues on Saturday with four games scheduled.
University host South Hobart at Olinda Grove at 2pm, Hobart City Beachside are at home at Sandown Park to metro at 2.30pm, New Town White Eagles welcome Hobart United to Clare Street at 2.30pm, and South East United entertain Olympia Warriors at Pembroke Park at 2.30pm.

With Lightwood Park still off limits, Kingborough Lions United will play their NPL game against South Hobart on Saturday at Kingston’s Twin Ovals at 11.45am.
Statistician Ben Smith tells me that this will be the 16th ground to be used in the NPL Tasmania competition since its inception and the first game ever to be played with a morning kick-off.
The Under-21s will play at the same venue with a 9.30am kick-off, while the Women’s Super League game will kick off at 2pm at the Twin Ovals.
An A-League friendly was played at the Twin Ovals on 29 September 2013, when Melbourne Victory beat Western Sydney Wanderers 3-0.
The curtain-raiser was Tasmania against Melbourne Victory’s youth side and Tasmania lost 6-1.
The following Saturday, I have been told that Aussie Rules games are scheduled for the Twin Ovals so Kingborough’s NPL fixture against Riverside Olympic will be played at South Hobart Oval.

Transparency by Football Tasmania may just be an illusion.
I am told that they will not release tribunal decisions and that it is up to the club or clubs involved in tribunal matters to make outcomes known.
This is farcical. Fat chance of that happening. Tribunal decision should be made public.
The football community and clubs should know about tribunal decisions as it could influence their own and their players’ behaviour in the future.
If decisions involve spectators, it is in the community’s interest to know the outcomes. It could be a matter of public safety.
Decisions and punishments may act as a deterrent.
Clubs also need to know which opposing players are suspended as this may change the club’s approach to a game and make it easy to identify any ineligible players. Oversights can occur and there needs to be another level of monitoring.
I’d be interested to gauge readers’ opinions.

Given the modern state of social media at times, I can see the argument that publicising tribunal decisions may lead to yet more unwanted publcity and controversy. However I believe this is trumped by the need for justice to be seen to be done, and the need for deterrence to be effective.
Player suspensions should be publicised as a matter of course as is done by mainland federations. FT are just too scared of doing the right thing in case they spook the media into further coverage of a heated match etc. Time for the Chairman to develop some cajones. Lord knows he has been in the job long enough - way past the Constitution deadline.
As a fan of the league it'd just be good for information sake. Just like with Dulleh the other week. Its fine that they overturned the red card but it'd be good to know why he was on the teamsheet and not suspended for that cup game. Same for suspensions that go for longer.
Maybe for crowd and lower leagues you don't need to publicize it but for WSL and NPL they should just make a quick little post. They can turn the comments off it they want to protect the players.
Is it top oval or bottom oval? I heard it was bottom oval.
Long overdue for some changes at senior management and board level for FT. Our game has so much potential to grow and needs to be in better hands to see it develop. Decisions such as allowing 3 northern NPL teams has damages the appeal of the league that everyone else saw coming

Sometimes we have to call a spade a spade and acknowledge when referees are no longer up to the required standard, despite there being a lack of them around. The refereeing in the Taroona/University Championship game was laughable for all that attended, on both sides.

The official sign outside the ground made and erected by the Hobart City Council says: South Hobart Oval.
It was probably designated as an oval because cricket used to be played there.
When you and I played there, Ray, in the 60s and 70s, it was simply known as South Hobart. All football fans knew where the ground was (near the Keen's Curry sign on the hill) and simply called it South Hobart.
The name 'Darcy Street' is a relatively modern and pretentious name for the ground. I've even heard it called "The Theatre of Dreams". I always thought that was Old Trafford in Manchester!

Just another thing. At the start of the season, South Hobart was referred to on DRIBL as South Hobart Oval and Playground. They probably should have gone the whole hog and called it: South Hobart Oval, Playground and Dog Walking Park.

The Championship cup is a waste of space. Α Summer Cup during Winter. The Summer Cup at least has a purpose, To get games into teams to prepare for the season proper. The top 5 teams in alphabetical order are in one group and the next 4 in the other. You play every team in your group once and the top team in each group play in a final. FFT said this is so clubs get to play more games because it is such a short season. All this rubbish instead of just playing a third round in the Championship. Something that the clubs and players actually care about. The reason this cup has not been advertised is because everyone is embarrassed by it including FFT.
Certainly always seemed strange to me that a field bordered by the grandly titled Wellington and Washington Streets should be referred to as 'Darcy st'. It never occurred to me though that this was something ' pretentious'. I thought it more a term of affection like a nick name is and is meant to be even if it seems derogatory. It also seemed a way of people that actually use the ground claiming it as theirs, as opposed to the beuracrat in the lands dept who labelled it 'South Hobart Oval'.
The ground in Devonport is actually in Lovett Street but pretends it is in Valley Road , pretentious indeed!?
When the ground was originally put there, it was in Valley Road. Lovett Street didn’t exist.
Thanks , well that makes sense. I worked in valley road in the seventies, and my memory of it is petering out into the bush.
On the 'Tasmanian Dog Walkers. Inc' site the ground on Washington Street is called
"South Hobart Recreation Ground" and goes to "Note: this ground is sometimes called South Hobart Oval" and also says that you can't have your dog off the leash while " sport is being undertaken " but presumably you can walk around the field while game is on with your dog on a leash. Something to keep in mind for next penalty shootout.
Correct. Was the only street when the club was built leading into its entrance. It was Valley Road
