Cup finalists decided on the weekend

Devonport Strikers, the holders, and South Hobart, past winners, will meet in the 2023 Lakoseljac Cup Final at KGV park next month.

The Strikers got an almighty scare before beating Clarence Zebras 3-2 at home at Valley Road on Saturday.

On Sunday, South Hobart easily swept aside second-tier Hobart United 5-0 at KGV Park to end United’s giant-killing dreams.

Clarence Zebras opened the scoring against Devonport in the first minute through Xuan Cappellino, while Curtis Miley made it 2-0 in the 20th minute.

Roberto Garrido pulled a goal back for the home side 3 minutes before the interval and then made it 2-2 in the 64th minute.

Clarence Zebras had a great chance to win when Cappellino earned a penalty in the 83rd minute, but he smacked his spot-kick against the crossbar to let Devonport off the hook.

The Strikers made the most of the reprieve when Brody Denehey hit the winner 3 minutes later to put the holders in the final.

South Hobart took just 60 seconds to hit the front against Hobart United.  Gus Higgins’s header produced a parried save from United keeper Hammad Shabbir, but when the ball came back to Higgins, he headed it home from close range.

Nick Morton, who went on to score a hat-trick, made it 2-0 in the 37th minute.

South Hobart, who had Bradley Lakoseljac playing very deep as a screen in front of the back-four, squandered numerous chances before Sam Berezansky added their third in the 62nd minute when he swept home a low right-wing cross from substitute Jaden Fidra.

Fidra produced an identical cross to enable Morton to complete his brace in the 69th minute.

Morton completed his hat-trick in the 90th minute from Tobias Herweynen’s pass.

In the Women’s State-wide Cup, South Hobart overcame Devonport Strikers 5-2 away at Valley Road on Saturday in one semi-final, while holders Launceston United made it through 1-0 against Kingborough Lions United away at KGV Park, also on Saturday.

South Hobart validated their status as favourites when Aaliyah Browning fired the visitors into a 2-0 lead with goals in the 14th and 18th minutes.

Georgia King reduced the arrears with a 52nd minute goal for Devonport, but Lucy Roberts (69th) and Amy Ollington (74th) gave South Hobart one foot in the cup final.

Jazmin White’s 79th minute strike was a mere consolation goal for the home side and new signing from Clarence Zebras, Caitlin Stalker, rounded off South Hobart’s win with their fifth goal in stoppage time.

Launceston United were taken all the way by the Lions in the other semi-final.

American import from St Louis, Missouri, Courtney Marten, hit the crossbar early in the game and then hit the only goal of the game in the 24th minute when the ball fell at her feet after glancing off the crossbar from Adilat Otto’s right-wing cross.

Kingborough tried and tried to get back into the game but created few chances.

They introduced Niki Moutsatsos at half-time and she did well in attack and down the flanks, but the Lions were unable to find an equaliser.

Laura Davis’s speed caused a few anxious moments for the visitors, but she could not score and Launceston United will now defend their title against the Women’s Super League leaders, South Hobart.

In the Under-21 State-wide Cup semi-finals, South East United caused an upset with a 3-1 away win over Launceston City, while Devonport Strikers downed Riverside Olympic 4-2 away at Windsor Park.

Walter,
What was the reasoning, if any, behind switching the Ampol (Lakoseljac) Cup Final from Darcy St - which was traditional home of "The Cup" - and how long ago roughly did that happen?
Was it because Darcy St used to be "TSA" headquarters.... and I'm assuming now Tas football headquarters is Grove Rad?
Is it because the artificial pitch doesn't get muddy. Or something?
And why was headquarters itself switched to KGV?

So one Defender comes off for Zebras and the bottom falls out of the bucket ? Surely as a coach you would have had a couple of capable defenders on the bench in such an important game against a red hot attacking side like Devonport? Zebras obviously don't have a problem scoring goals but my god they have a big problem leaking them. A golden opportunity wasted by poor management in my opinion

Is it only me that thinks the South Hobart Goalkeeper strip was a serious clash with the Hobart United team strip?

I watched the live stream of Devonport v Clarence and it wasn't a great game to watch as I though the technical aspect was lacking. Yes, I know it was a semi but if this is the best standard, we have then it doesn't look bright for the future.
I now understand why people complain about port. Thier supporters Winge and whine about everything even when it's a clean tackle. At least Copra was consistent for both teams even if he didn't pay blatant fouls.

For goodness sake fellas give it a break about the Zeb coaching group.

Clearly you have a chip on your shoulder.

How about you go and contribute to the game by giving something back.

Haven’t Zebras been the only team to consistently slot goals against Devonport? Goals win games, nice work Zebs keep it up

Anon 9.09.
Maybe some of us have and /or still are contributing.

From a brief google search... Devonport and CZebs have played each other 11 times.

Devonport = 10 wins. There has been one draw. CZebs = 0 wins.

Devonport = 35 goals. CZebs = 10 goals.

Yes, they have scored goals.

But you tell me whether 'Goals win games' lol.

Perhaps 'Goals win games.. If ya don't leak more'?

And those historical results matter how? In 2023 there’s been a 1-1 draw and a 2-3 loss which very easily could have gone Zebras way. In fact there’s only been one game Devonport haven’t won this season (including summer cup) and that was Zebras. These are facts but I guess that doesn’t suit your narrative

Mate from what I can see they deserve a serve ,the club needs change at commitee level .
They need to invest in a coach from outside with some modern ideas ,who isn't a control freak

Lmao mate. You want to talk about facts?

My comment was in response to someone who said CZebs have CONSISTENTLY been scoring vs Dev.

Definition of consistent - 'acting or done in the same way over time'.

So yes. Historical results do in fact matter. FACT.

And lol 'Could have easily gone Zebras way'. Well then. If it was so easy, why didn't it? I'll save you the response. They leak too many goals. And are Poorly coached. And as such, CZebs have not beaten Dev in 11 games. FACT. Also yet to beat them this year. FACT.

But if you want to sit there and congratulate CZebs on a few 'nearly wins' and a couple 'goals here and there' then sure. Go for it, fact boy.

The Clarence x Zebs merge didn't work, Czebs are no good (OPINION).

Lets see what happens tomorrow :)
