The death has occurred in Hobart of Glyn Jenkins, a leading coach in southern Tasmania in the mid to late 1970s.

He was 84 years old.

A Welshman, Jenkins moved to Tasmania from Perth in Western Australia after bringing a Western Australian youth team to Hobart for a football carnival.

He liked Tasmania so much that he and his family moved here and he immediately became involved in local football.

He was appointed senior coach of White Eagles, a top-flight club, in 1976.

After a brief tenure at Eagles, he became senior coach of South Hobart, where he had some trophy successes.

He also had coaching stints at Caledonians  and DOSA.

Jenkins was a prime mover in the foundation of South East United at Sorell and encouraged the development of football in that region.

His son, Gary, was an accomplished player at Caledonians, White Eagles and University.
