Tasmania’s two goalkeepers playing in the UK were both on the bench in New Year’s Day matches.

Simon Miotto was on the bench for Tranmere Rovers as they lost 3-2 away to Rochdale in Division One.

Alex Cisak was on the bench for Accrington Stanley, who grabbed their first away win of the season, downing Morecamb 2-1 in Division Two.

West Bromwich Albion were unlucky to lose 2-1 to Manchester United at the Hawthorns.

Wayne Rooney had put United ahead after only two minutes with a simple header from Patrice Evra’s left-wing cross before James Morrison equalised in the 14th minute with a stunning strike.

West Brom should have been awarded a penalty when Graham Dorrans was blatantly brought down by Gary Neville, but the referee waved play on.

The home side did earn a penalty in the second half when Jerome Thomas was tripped by Rio Ferdinand, but Odemwingie placed his spot-kick wide.

The winner was another simple header, this time from substitute Hernandez after a corner.

Great to see the coverage of Tasmania's two keepers in English professional leagues, Walter. It would be good to hear more about them from week to week.

It would also be interesting to hear more about the progress Greg Downes is making over there too.

If any of you in the aforementioned trio are observing Walter's blog, ignore some of the ignorant cretins who wallow in parochial heliocentricism and make disparaging comments about your progress. The vast majority of people in the Tasmanian football milieu are very interested in your progress, are proud of you and wish you well in the future. Well done!!! You are leading the way.
