Devonport Strikers shrugged off their Australia Cup loss in midweek and collected another 3 points in the NPL Tasmania competition by downing Launceston City 1-0 away at Buckby Motors Park in Launceston on Saturday.

The Strikers had lost 1-0 in Queensland to the Gold Coast Knights.

A 57th-minute penalty converted by Roberto Garrido did the trick.

The win kept Devonport 7 points ahead of second-placed Glenorchy Knights and with a game in hand.

Knights downed second-last Riverside Olympic 3-0 at home at KGV Park on Saturday.

Eli Luttmer put the Knights ahead in the 9th minute with a penalty, awarded when Mathew Brkic was brought down.

Jaxon Richardson headed the second in the 29th minute after a crops from the right, while Moses Khasif hit the third from Jucas Dzelakowski’s pass in the 72nd minute.

Riverside’s Portuguese striker, Andre Chamusca, was unlucky when his low shot was turned against the post by Knights keeper Jackson Gardner.

Knights had four regulars missing but their replacements were up to the task and the home side were never in trouble.

It was all South Hobart at South Hobart Oval as they demolished bottom-side Launceston United 7-0.

Jaden Fidra opened the scoring in the 12th minute, while two goals in 3 minutes by Iskander Van Doorne before the quarter-hour mark was up made it 3-0 at the interval.

Van Doorne’s first goal came after he appeared to control the ball with his hand.  Launceston United’s defenders protested, but the referee ang his assistant remained unmoved.

South Hobart netted four more goals after the break to complete the job against a visiting side that struggled at the back.

On Sunday, a pathetic defensive display by Clarence Zebras saw them succumb 5-2 to the visiting Kingborough Lions United at Wentworth Park.

The winner was awarded the Franklin Cup in a game that promoted awareness of prostate cancer.

The Clarence Zebras player-of-the-match was Sam Tooze, who scored after coming on as a substitute.

The Lions player-of-the-match was Ahmad Othman, who hit a hat-trick.

Both players received medals.

The Lions opened their account after just 2 minutes when Noah Mies snapped up the rebound after player-coach Alfred Hess had unlocked the Clarence defence on the left.

Othman scored the second in the 39th minute before the home side pulled a goal back through substitute Tooze midway through the second half after Lions keeper

Eisa Azizi could only parry Ryely Wishart’s shot.

Othman restored the Lions’ two-goal buffer a minute after Tooze’s goal after a terrible defensive error by the home side.

Azizi failed to hold a cross and allowed Riley Dillon to tap home the easiest of goals in the 78th minute to make it 3-2.

The Lions then capitalised on poor defensive play to score twice more, through Declan Taylor and Othman, to seal a 5-2 win.

And your from which club??

They are rubbish, they need a change at the top.

Honestly, nothing will ever change at Zebras unless the board changes, won’t matter who is in charge of the football department. The same evolution will just go round and round.

What’s happened to the Riverside NPL coach? Has he left?

Suspended from NPL for the remainder of the season and from junior football for 2-years!!

A huge punishment in the context of football in Tasmania.

Begs the question as to why the outcome wasn’t reported…. And according to the Examiner why he continues to coach in the background. Surely that sort of behaviour isn’t inline with Riversides values.
