Tasmanian Lauren Hargrave's name up in lights

Tasmania’s Lauren Hargrave, now living interstate, has become the State’s second FIFA referee.

The first was Jack Johnston, who refereed international matches in the 1980s and officiated at an Under-20 World Cup series in Mexico.

Now we have our second FIFA official and one active in women’s football.

Lauren was on the line in Japan this week.

She officiated at the women’s friendlies between Japan and Nigeria, and Japan and New Zealand.

Last Thursday, Japan beat Nigeria 2-0 at the Noevir Stadium in Kobe, both goals coming from Mina Tanaka, in the 64th minute and 68th minute, the latter from the penalty spot.

Today [Sunday], Japan beat New Zealand 2-0 at the Nagano U Stadium, with the goals coming from Hinata Miyazawa in the 44th minute and Rika Ueki in the 61st minute.

She was back in Tasmania briefly towards the end of the 2022 season and acted as fourth official at some women’s finals.

Congratulations go to Lauren.  She is obviously destined for big things on the world football stage.
