What a terrible mess the WSL is thank’s FFT .
Full respect to the WSL players and coaches for their efforts, I target these comments at FFT.
FT should be embarrassed about the state of the WSL and actively trying to do something about this before it falls to pieces. FFT completely mismanaged the opportunity to grow and strengthen the women's game in the lead-up, during, and after the WWC2023.
Add to that, in the week celebrating Female Football it is club's who are organising events and there is limited effort visible from FFT in a coordinated Tasmania approach to promote this. It is no wonder the WSL is flailing with a lack of leadership from FFT. Do better.
One of the harshest red cards I've ever seen in a local football game against Riverside, so bad that South intentionally missed the resulting penalty, player rightfully upset. A pen, yes maybe - a yellow would have been harsh given how close that got kicked into her from and where her arms were.
When you have teams deliberately missing penalty kicks out of pity for their opposition, you know you have a problem with your top division. The Standard of the WSL has been dropping each year, so what was FT's solution? To add more Championship level sides in. A truly stunning development that a side who lost 13-0 to Devonport in the Statewide Cup last season haven't been up to the standard. But don't worry I'm sure they'll simply add more sides in next season to fix things.
To be fair Taroona aren't much better!
Is that true missing penalty kicks to make the result look better is it Under 8 .
Surely not in the top flight what a disaster the league is .
In saying all this, everyone was "slagging off" Knights 3 weeks ago, since then they have won 2 and lost 4-1 to South in the cup. One of these wins was against Kingbourough, so I guess things can change quickly.
I think there is enough talent in the state for a solid 6 team comp - there's challenges getting them all playing for clubs they enjoy and probably more importantly the travel.
Also seems to be a lot of churn with players moving on to other things after a couple of seasons, so hard to build up continuity - not that many seem to be 'career wsl' players outside of 2 or 3 at each club.

Think 12: 52 clearly implies the South team considered the penalty an incorrect /unfair decision so decided to intentionally 'miss' it. They were in a position after all to do this , but still, I think it admirable and should be applauded rather than seen as some pitiable sign of decay.
Deliberately missing a penalty when a penalty has been wrongly awarded is a noble action and has been done at the highest levels of the game in other parts of the world. If only we saw such honourable actions more often, the modern game would be seen in a less cynical light than is often the case nowadays.
Thank you Walter. That is the correct interpretation of what happened. My players made the decision themselves as they realised an error had been made. The score was only 2-0 at this stage. Instead of mentioning the word "pity" above, some other posters perhaps could have used the word "sportsmanship" to more accurately describe what we did. As you rightly say Walter this has been done at the very top of the professional game on many occasions and should be applauded not used as a stick to beat the competition or the teams that play their best every week. The league needs the support of the community and not scorn or misinformed criticism.
I thought the act of sportsmanship was a tremendous look, well done to Alastair and the playing group. I really loved how the South Hobart team got around the Riverside player and consoled them, it was a good to watch.
I also don’t adhere to the comments regarding the league being in a bad place. If anything, my passion for the sport has been rejuvenated due to the talent coming through the women’s league. Do we want to see more competitive matches? Absolutely, no question. I personally believe the quickest way to achieve that is exposing as many players to the top level as possible, and credit to Glenorchy-they look super impressive for a 1st year team. I’ll continue to do my best to watch the girls every week, it’s a blessing watching the talent and professional standards of play at South Hobart.
Regarding the red card, I’m glad there hasn’t been a pile on of the referee. Finding young people keen on refereeing is so important, obviously. And the more times I’ve watched the replay of the incident, I actually think it was the right call. The shot attempt was on goal, all likely would have been goal, & the players arms were out from their body. The letter of the law says that’s a red card.
Maybe the penalty was incorrect, but the league is a joke ,standard is shocking.
Go back to regional comps then you may have players come back to the game as no travel wasting you weekend
Haven't t had much to do with the game if you think it is a half decent standard.
Obviously, I can’t force anybody to like something they don’t. And I’m not going to play some crap card like “well it’s misogynistic to dislike it”. But, I do. And yes, it is fairly new to me, I’ve only been really committed to watching every South game each weekend since the start of last year. These women play extremely hard & with an infectious passion, score lines be damned. And crapping on the league anonymously on the internet just makes you look like a massive dweeb, no offence.
Unfortunately someone has to finish at the bottom. Will be interesting south struggled to beat the big hitters cup game will see if they are truely title contenders.

Just makes the argument that WSL is not up to the standard, it was FT has a lot to answers for.
Clear handball, with arm away from the body on the 6 yard line. Stopped a shot that's on target... Clear penalty. Red is double jeopardy though as they still had the goal scoring chance. Should've been yellow, but not as harsh as it's been made out to be.
It’s always FT...never ever the clubs, many of whom never took women’s football seriously for years
