Who says you can't purchase a title.......
Great season for Clarence. Another one. Well done.
Devonport tried
Poor finishing cost the Port. Big chances.
Not often they have a sombre trip home.
They blew the title.
The Knights keeper played a blinder!!
Devonport obviously, they bought two players midseason and didn't get it done 👍
Devonport spend big Money on forwards to win the title and it’s ironic that they ultimately cost them winning the title.
Referee did a very good job. He handled the constant complaining and diving from the Devonport players ( particularly Capalino) very well. Thank goodness he was correctly given the job today.
He won them the game but let’s be honest , almost every shot was right at him
Who ended winning the league golden boot. Was it kemp. ?
Not to the extent of Knights.
Agreed. Was good to see this referee not so easily fooled by such behaviour. No wonder the dev players of old are embarrassed by the diving and complaining of some current players
The whining on this forum paid off
Devonport's waywardness in front of goal cost them points on multiple occasions this season, and ultimately it cost them again when they needed it most. Throw a Fernandez Garrido or Mann (in his prime) into that box today and I reckon they are taking the trophy back up the Midland Highway again, because they would have made sure young Burdon wasn't reaching one of those shots on goal.
Wow.
Launceston United conceded on average nearly 5 goals a game.
Well, 4.95
Devonport will look very different next year
Winner$ are grinner$$$
A big crowd at KGV to watch a thrilling game. No doubt that Devonport could have won the match and the league but were thwarted by the 17yr old Knights keeper who must have played the game of his life. He’d had a problem or two throughout the season but it is fair to say he won the game for the Knights, he matured as a keeper and deserved a great deal of respect for a match winning performance. A shame there was no PA system available for the presentation, could not hear a word anyone said.
Keeper didn’t win the game for Knights. It was a 0-0 draw. What he did do was enable them to get a draw and win the title.
Yes..yes ..and if south had better defended that corner well into extra time they would have won the title, given the result yesterday ..but.. in the end, Knights F column makes them worthy winners of the 2024 League Title.
Absolutely correct
Knights pumped Port and took their chances Port can't say the same against either south or Knights
Agreed. Maybe only 3 players left from this years squad
Well done Knights best team all year
Well done Tom on your wsl title
Hahahahaha
Why?
New adventures away from Tas, family commitments?? Guess when you’ve won everything and you your 30 ish, what’s the point? It’s football in Tasmania after all.
Never played sport then? Winning is pretty fun.
Bit of a Ballantyne Bottle Job in the end!! Leaving Nick LA on the bench and having Barnard available and on the bench as a coach, but not a player was a huge selection/tactical error that could’ve made a huge difference. Nick LA consistently one of Port’s best all year and Barnard has scored that many winners late in games, especially from corners (which Devonport had atleast 12 of)!!
Well done Angus @ 17 you saved the knights as for the rest of the team Well Devonport played a better game .
Remember many a season where a Devonport keeper has saved a season
Cappallino and Ballantyne were lucky to stay on the pitch
Winning is fun. True. But not when you have to travel a minimum of 2 hours every second weekend.
Well done Devonport on playing the better game. Did you get a trophy for that
I couldn’t believe barnard wasn’t on the bench and Nick didn’t get on the field. Port supporters will be wondering what if for quite some time
Port with swaby up front will be right back up there next year
0/0 is no great medal deserving win
Should not come down to goal difference
A whole 2 hours. Shocking. Lived in Tassie your whole life?
Ballantyne always carries on like that. What did cap do?
Unfortunately there was no chance of that with their keepers this year
Capellini diving is beyond embarrassing for the league
Port the new knights with their massive spending. Cappalino mega $$ deal got them nowhere. While the Local dev boys got shafted.
It ended the state league footy and it will end the NPL. As soon as the NW coast don’t have a competitive side watch the whole comp collapse
What’s mega $$?
South are better than Knights
Move on South & Knights best teams the game is about winning and you need to score goals to win Knights did that better then all
Hello peoples.. This was not a grand final ! ! Just one of a twenty one game league.
GD is the fairest way to seperate teams. ( and I support south.)
Interesting that Ballantyne would go on a coaching course the week of the biggest game of the season. Surely that could have been rescheduled. It's the fine details that decide titles.
And leaving NLA on the pine and not playing Barnard will haunt him for a long time. Saying that, they had more than enough chances to win the game.
The presentation was the usual amateur hour production from FFT.
No sign of the CEO...
Fact Check. Nick LA has not been amongst Devonport best this season and it’s been a long time since Barnard has scored a winner in a big game
The saltiness in here is amusing. Bitter, sad people. Equal best team across the home and away season, with the best goal difference. Anyone who says different, can't call themselves a football purist. Dev knew they needed a win, and with some strange decisions (Nick LA, Barnard on bench..), didn't manage to breakthrough. Come Knights.
Swaby signing with launny city again
Watched 3 games on U Tube. Didn't bother with the Clarence game. Knights deserve their title but made hard work of it. With the side they had should have been clear on top. Only managed to click a couple of times this season. I feel sorry for Bidwell of Port. He plays his bollocks off every week.
Thanks again Walter for your coverage of our game.Without it we'd be lost. Stay well - See you next year.
The league table says south are not better then knights
Knight$ had the easiest draw home and away this year. So they should win
The whole comp is a farce. Should at least play each other home and away the same amount of times. Scrap it back to 6 teams and 24 rounds.
Devonport finished 2nd last the season before savill coached .if Savill hadn’t gone there and showed them what was possible devonport would have pulled out of npl citing travel as the reason
What about the last two shots he had, they were the most crucial one, they were definitely not at him
Why did the AFL teams on the NW coast pull out. Travel. Watch this space
Let Glenorchy City Council know!
gccmail@gcc.tas.gov.au
And while you are there, ask them why they decided to half pull down a grandstand before the end of the season.
And why the development of KGV has taken more than 5 years to complete since being announced.
And then ask them what they were on when the designed the new change rooms ...
Fact check. Nick LA has been far better then Liam Kelly (who came on instead of Nick) this year and Miles Barnard has scored more winners at NPL level than Jordy Payne (who came on from the bench) is likely to. Denehy to 9, Nick LA to 10 and Cappellino to the bench would’ve been a stronger starting 11.
Well done Glenorchy nice to see a change in winners
Not really.
Despite GCC being the butt of a KFC joke - FT can’t blame anyone else for not having a microphone and a speaker on hand - DJ Stratos could’ve hired one to them…
Ballantyne found out this year goes to show how reliant he was on Roberto.
Getting sick of people pushing this 6 team nonsense..as a player who the hell would want to play the same 5 teams all year round? boring as! The more the merrier to be honest. Yes there’s going to be teams struggling like Launny United..but have you people not watched the prem? Or any league for that matter? Some sides get battered every week and that’s at the highest level. Look at Riverside and Clarence..say what you want but both those teams put a valiant effort against the “top 4”- a lot of the games weren’t blowout games as one would imagine. And like someone mentioned before..the season Before Sav took over at Devonport they finished 2nd last..and look at them now. Things take time.
Living on the NW it’s a big issue keeping juniors playing football. The only real competition some of these kids play in is the Dev,Launny and Hobart Cup - which isn’t enough. These kids are playing the same 3,4,5 teams outside of these Cup tournaments and it would be boring as if I were a kid doing that. Rant over. Keep as many teams as possible in the NPL - this gap between the top and bottom will gradually fade away, especially if we can increase junior numbers/keeping them playing even if it’s just for fun - because heck that’s why we all love the game
I mean yes they were right at him. Yes, the pressure and stakes were high and I give him credit for keeping his composure when his team needed him. Bidwell’s shot was nowhere near the corner when he saved it. And same thing with Payne’s shot- keeper was already on that side and put his hand out. I guess that performance cancels out the many blinders and mistakes he made. I reckon if Knights had a proper keeper the league would have been there’s a long tie ago
Agreed. The time will come soon. The novelty has well and truely died of this state league. There is no publicity for it and Football Tas will once again blame something else when it collapses again
Yes Peter Savill played his cards well, but think it no coincidence that that the seemingly miraculous transformation of Port during the15/16 offseason was going on at the same time as 5000/1 Leicester city was climbing the EPL ladder. That is ,think Sav was definitely peering over Ranieri's shoulder. First he took Braydn Vardy with him from south and then quickly formed a formidable back four and keeper combination. Presto Tasnpl's first counter attacking machine. That defence laid the foundation of all the subsequent success at Valley Road.
