Glenorchy Knights or reigning champions Devonport City will be crowned the 2024 NPL Tasmania champions after tomorrow’s final round of matches.
Knights have already won the Lakoseljac Cup this season so they can complete the league and cup double if they are good enough tomorrow.
Devonport can retain their NPL title if they beat Knights, who only need a draw to snare the honours.
Devonport will have extra incentive as this may be their only piece of silverware this season.
Both teams will be at full strength so it will be up to the players and the tactics the respective coaches decide upon.
The sides have met three times this season - twice in the league and once in the cup.
The first league meeting was at Valley Road and resulted in a 1-1 draw.
The second league meeting was at KGV Park and the Knights won at a canter, 4-0.
The cup tie was a semi-final at Valley Road and Knights won 3-2 after extra-time.
These results indicate that tomorrow’s showdown, which kicks off at KGV Park at 2.30pm, will probably be an intense, close and nail-biting encounter.
In other games, third-placed South Hobart entertain fifth-placed Launceston City at South Hobart Oval at 2pm, Clarence Zebras host Riverside Olympic at Wentworth Park at 2.15 pm, and Kingborough Lions United, whose fourth place is in jeopardy, meets bottom-side Launceston United at Lightwood Park at 2.30pm.
I had to have a chuckle when I heard on TV that South Hobart can finish equal first.
That’s simply not correct. They can finish level on points but will be second on goal difference. That’s an important distinction.
