South Hobart on course for the 2025 NPL Tasmania title

South Hobart appear well on the way to the 2025 NPL Tasmania title.

They have five games remaining and lead second-placed Launceston City by 8 points, although City have a game in hand.

The two sides meet on Saturday at South Hobart Oval and City must win to keep alive their title challenge.

City striker Angus Taylor is on fire and scored four goals on the weekend.

He was born in Australia but moved to France as a youngster and was playing in Florida. USA, when he signed for City.

He could hold the key to Saturday’s game and South Hobart will have to neutralise him if they are to win.

South Hobart played their third game in succession on Friday night at KGV Park and beat hosts Glenorchy Knights 2-0 through goals by Nick Morton and one of their former players, Austin Yost.

Knights didn’t help their cause when Nick Naden had a penalty saved by South keeper, Nick O’Connell.

Nor did they when they had Anthony Mamic sent off in the closing minutes.

Launceston City made light work of Clarence Zebras, winning 12-3 at home at Prospect.

The puzzling factor is, how could they score a dozen goals and yet concede three?

That’s a bit of a worry going into the South Hobart game.

Thierry Swaby also scored four times so they seem to have ample firepower, but there seem to be chinks in their defence.

Launceston United grabbed only their second league win of the season with a 3-1 away triumph over Riverside Olympic.

Yaya Toure netted a brace and former Kingborough and Taroona player Ramiro Vilar got the third.  He is a skilful player and its good to seem back in the top flight.

Kingborough Lions United made it a hat-trick of wins over Devonport City this season when they came back from 2-0 down to beat the North-West Coast outfit 3-2 with three late goals, including two by teenage sensation Rowan Pitt.

He is the son of former star Tasmanian representative Craig Pitt.

The Lions leapfrogged Devonport into third place as a result of this win.

Kingborough have a very young team this year and hopefully this will become their foundation over the next 5 years, if fenech stays and can build a squad around these youngsters we could see kingborough kicking devonport and glenorchy out of the top 2/3 for the next couple seasons. Same with launie city. Will be interesting next year if either them will be able to challenge south Hobart more seriously.

Downes, Kawano, Mies, Luttmer,Ponce are not teenagers

No not teenagers but an excellent core from defence to attack for the teenagers to feed off with their exuberance.

Equally what a great group of leaders to drive standards and nurture the next generation of McShane, Pitt, H.Schwarz, O.Schwarz, Gordon, Galt, Dolover, Owjwia and Verdouw.

The squads ability to bounce back after losing to Knights 8 0 in round 4 has been impressive and enjoyable to watch.

And those older players are the spine of the Boro team. They would be bottom 3 without those guys.

Doesn’t change the fact they have a young team, do you expect a young npl team to have 11 under 21 players?

Kind of the point. A young team is full of young players the Kingborough team is not full of young players.

Good point, City from my research eldest player is 24 (Clark) The rest in the most commonly used team range from the tender age of 15 through to 22 years old.

That’s the definition of a youthful side, their captain (Jack Woodland) being 18. Pretty impressive consistency considering the age of that squad.

Don’t fall for the great pretenders trust me the will let you down .

Well said, yet city not their coach sprout rubbish about being a young side

I believe the post said city are also a young side???

Hey Walter, think there is a typo in your league ladder. I don't think Launceston United have scored 166 goals this season, lol.

I was agreeing with you but also as a neutral (knights fam) making the point that Boro probably are not as young as the post above suggests in comparison to Lonnie City but it does take time to build a side as we know can’t happen over night.

The kingboirgh team is full of young players 7 out of 11 players who started last week were 20 or younger.
