South Hobart loses to South Melbourne

South Melbourne beat South Hobart 4-1 this evening in the Tasmanians’ first game against the Victorian giants at Bob Jane Stadium.

South Melbourne fielded what was probably an under-20 team, with three or four over-age players.

South Hobart fielded a youth side in the first half and trailed 2-0 at the interval.

They brought on some senior players for the second half and Andy King managed to pull a goal back for the visitors, but the home side scored twice more.

Kostas Kanakaris also should have done better with a couple of chances that came his way.

Ken Morton was pleased with South’s performance and said that sloppy defending cost them at least a couple of goals.

The senior sides will meet on Saturday in the second and final game of the tour.

Senior coach Romeo Frediani and several senior players were missing from Tilford Zebras’ training session at Queens Walk this evening.

Frediani is in Sydney for a Futsal tournament.

In his absence, Rodney Bones took the session, while Dale Itchins and Nick Di Martino were also in attendance.

New goalkeeper Jason Voss was going through his paces with last year’s first-choice keeper Troy Kaden and another young keeper.

well not to mention the taroona photos too. Any idea as to what he is doing?

What do you reckon? He's in the picture, but then again, he played in the first Beachside match against South Hobart and was in the photos of the Taroona game against South Hobart.

Perhaps he's just trying to get fit.

Crossa might have extra time on his hands after supposedly chucking his job in.

From the pictures above it seems Zebras have been made a full scale raid on kingborough with a second kingborough star training with the Zebras Matt Lyle's dazzling footwork will be sorely missed at the lions den!

Saw a great game last night Clarence v TIS. TIS boys played well winning 5-4. Luke cripps looked sharp. Good luck to TIS at Institute Challenge in a few weeks.

For kempy and the anonymous poster who're fretting over the result, there wasn't much to take out of the game, it was very much a scratch match type of affair. Joe Keenan played for Hellas, and maybe 3/4 or so other senior of fringe senior players. Hobart's finishing let them down on occasion.

I think the Saturday game will be a better gauge of where the different leagues are at - though last year's result, and Hobart Olympic's forays at the Hellenic Cup don't necessarily paint a pretty picture.

oh dear what is the problem with the anonymous stay at home and blow raspberrys from the keyboard brigade.

you know what they say about idle hands and when it's combined with little imagination this is what you get.

a club not even the FFT initiates exactly what people continually complain about on this blog by getting exposure (not just South but Tassie as far as Melbourne is concerned) to higher quality games and all we get is complaints from the saddos that the result wasn't a resounding win for the locals!

these individuals wouldn't leave their postcode to watch any quality game if they had to pay a bus fare.

get real.

point taken Anon it gets a bit tedious sometimes reading the negative posts. I'm taking the tablets and feeling a lot better now.

it's all good.

when did bones make the switch from NTE to zebras? Surely if he wanted to coach senior football he should have just hung around until krambo got the sack at some stage this year?

Like it is:
I think you miss-understood, I think the previous comment you were refferring to was regarding the loss by South Hobart to the Victorian Kids.
You must be a Clarence person feeling a little insecure, but still not prepared to give credit where it is due. The TIS boys played particularly well against a pretty strong Clarence outfit...Well done boys

Rodney - you are right. I did mis-interpret that comment as being about another game - and have withdrawn my earlier retort.

Having said that Kempy - I agree with others - good on Sth Hobart for sending a team over. The result is not really important in the context of the exercise.

Anonymous said...

just FYI. the team Sth Melb put out thu night was a mixture of senior and youth players, including ex chelsea player joe keenan. in the 2nd game itwass pretty much a full strenght side minus a a couple.good results for sth hobs.

so what senior players are missing from zebras?

and look out- records show, that dale "midas" itchens has the golden touch. if he was on every coaching panel in the state, tassie football would be taking seriously

jerry, i know this is ridiculous. if your going to spend 15mins righting a post, spend another couple of seconds to distinguish yourself from all the other guys hiding amongst themselves. sammy k really looks like his getting back into the pace of a seemingly indestructable south unit this year
