Beachside down Nelson in pre-season friendly today

Southern Championship rivals Beachside and Nelson met at KGV Park in a pre-season friendly this afternoon.

First-half goals by Sam Mulcahy and Nick Thomas gave Beachside a 2-0 win.

Nelson began strongly enough but were eventually worn down by the greater experience of Beachside.

Nelson’s new coach is Chris Barrell, who has returned from Queensland.

Barrell won the Vic Tuting Silver Medal in 1990 as the best-and-fairest player in Tasmania.

He has played for Olympia, Glenorchy Knights and Kingborough Lions United during his playing career.

Beachside take on NPL Tasmania opponents in Clarence United at 7pm at KGV Park on Wednesday in another pre-season hit-out.
