Tasmanian football representative and Devonport City stalwart Harold Pattison has passed away in Burnie aged 86.
He was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and came to Tasmania in 1951.
He made his senior debut for Burnie Celtic aged just 14 and moved to Devonport when the club was formed in 1965.
He represented the North-West in various intrastate tournaments.
Pattison represented Tasmania in the 1950s and 1960s and he won Devonport’s inaugural best and fairest award in 1966.
He scored Tasmania’s goal in a 15-1 loss to the Australian Olympic team at South Hobart in 1956.
Pattison also played for Tasmania against Scottish first division club Heart of Midlothian at North Hobart Oval in 1959, a game which Hearts won 10-0. Incidentally, Launceston’s Nathanial Atkinson, an Australian international, now plays for Hearts.
Pattison played for Tasmania against South Australia in Adelaide in 1961, a game Tasmania lost 2-1.
He was also in the Tasmanian team that lost 7-0 to New South Wales at the Sydney Sports Ground in 1963.
Pattison turned out for Tasmania in 1964 in the 5-3 loss to Western Australia at South Hobart, and in the same year, in the 4-2 defeat by Northern New South Wales at South Hobart.
Pattison was a member of the Tasmanian team that lost 12-0 to English First Division club Chelsea at North Hobart in 1965.
He was also in the Tasmanian team that travelled to New Zealand and lost 6-0 to Auckland, in Auckland, in 1965.
Pattison was awarded Life Membership of the Devonport City club in 1981.
In 2012, Devonport named their best and fairest award the Harold Pattison Medal.
When Devonport redeveloped their club rooms in 2022, the Harold Pattison Memorabilia Room was established in the building.
Pattison remained actively involved at the club after retiring as a player, including as president of the club.
His funeral was held a week ago.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine.
