South Hobart stayed top of the Men’s Southern Championship standings despite being held to a 2-2 draw away to third-last Clarence Zebras at Wentworth Pak on Friday night.
Clarence Zebras were bolstered by the inclusion of NPL players Sam Tooze and Ryan Cook.
Ethan Medhurst gave the home side the lead a minute after half-time, but Rex Maddock drew the visitors level in the 69th minute.
Shin Kwan Hoon put South in front with 6 minutes remaining, but Cook salvaged a point for the Eastern Shore outfit by equalising a minute later.
Second-ranked Taroona scraped home 3-2 against sixth-placed University courtesy of a last-minute goal by Oliver Maxwell.
Cooper Bain put Taroona ahead after just 4 minutes, only to see Stuart Carnaby equalise in the 12th minute.
Joel Terhell restored Taroona’s lead 4 minutes later, but Gus Rumney made it 2-2 five minutes into the second-half before Maxwell’s last-gasp winner for Taroona.
Third-placed South East United got back on course with a 5-0 thumping of bottom-side Glenorchy Knights.
Former University player David Butler grabbed a brace, while Patrick Quinlan, captain Nick Zammit and Daniel Harris completed the scoring. All the goals came in the first half.
Fourth-ranked and reigning champions New Town White Eagles trounced second-last Hobart City 5-1 at home at Clare Street.
Sam Leszczynski showed his return to form after a lengthy injury spell by scoring twice.
Veterans Adam McKeown and George Ivanov, signed from Kingborough Lions United and Glenorchy Knights, respectively, netted a goal apiece, while former Clarence Zebras striker Matthew Pace grabbed the remaining goal.
Danilo De Franca had given City some hope when he found the net in the 70th minute to make it 3-1, but it was not to be.
Olympia Warriors, in 7th place, showed they still have a competitive team by drawing 2-2 away with fifth-ranked Hobart United.
Charlie Roberts gave Olympia the lead on the hour, but Fred Lagu levelled 6 minutes later.
Patrick Mazimpaka put United in front in the 72nd minute before Ryan Amani ensured Olympia of a share of the points with a goal 7 minutes from time.
