Launceston United, Lions and Clarence Zebras simply not up to it

South Hobart took over at the top of the NPL Tasmania standings when they thrashed the visiting Launceston United 10-0 at South Hobart Oval yesterday.

They leapfrogged previous leaders Launceston City, who succumbed 1-0 to Devonport City at home at Prospect,

Reigning champions Glenorchy Knights confirmed their title credentials with an 8-0 drubbing of Kingborough Lions United away at Lightwood Park.

And Clarence Zebras plunged further into crisis when they went down 2-0 away to Riverside Olympic.

Launceston United reserve goalkeeper Lachlan Cook seemed overawed by the occasion and the responsibility of filling in for Daniel Nash.  He blundered badly on several occasions, making South Hobart’s task that much easier.

South Hobart, who were without defender Jacob Lancaster, scored five goals in each half.

They played with three at the back, which allowed Adam Gorrie, normally a right-back, to maraud down the flanks at will.

Bradley Lakoseljac also returned to the side after a lengthy absence through injury, scoring one goal, while Sam Berezansky played in a deep role just in front of the back-four, where he used his skill and vision to initiate attacks and even scored a goal.

Launceston United were totally outclassed and their useful performances in recent weeks counted for nothing.

South Hobart are now a point clear at the top and will prove very difficult to dislodge.

Kingborough Lions United wear black and blue stripes.  They must have felt black and blue as well after being battered by a rampant Glenorchy Knights outfit.

The game seemed destined to be goalless at half-time, but Knights then scored twice in quick succession, with only minutes of the half remaining, through Cammron Morris and Riley Dillon.

Knights really went to work in the second half, scoring six more times against a toothless Lions line-up.

The Lions are in danger of reverting to mediocrity again and being only of nuisance value in the league and have dropped out of the top-four to fifth spot..

Devonport City reverted to winning ways, but they were lucky against Launceston City, who had two penalties saved by Devonport keeper, Noah Curtis.

Referee Nathan Coad awarded Devonport’s goal as an own goal by Riley Fellows, which makes Devonport even luckier to win.

The three points lifted them up two places to fourth in the standings and halted their dangerous downward spiral.

Things got worse for Clarence Zebras as they suffered their fourth loss in a row.

They were not without fight, but still went down 2-0 away to Riverside Olympic at Windsor Park.

Gediminas Krusa and Thomas Knowles grabbed the goals in the first and second halves, respectively, to plunge the visitors deep into crisis.

We’re really looking to add another 2 teams to this league, but at what cost to the quality across it?

The main backers of this NPL format are those that get good money (players and coaches) from it. Everyone else sees that it is a failing model.

Put another two teams in and the league will die even more than it is. League gets zero publicity, crowds are dismal and only a few teams that end up competing each year. AFL Tas got it right to scrap their state league format. Time will come for this one.

Great Post hit the nail on the head my friend !

It's time to bite the bullet - NPL not working.
The top 4 in the championship in Hobart are more than capable of competing in a Southern comp.

FT showed their incompetence when they allowed Lonny United into the NPL when they couldn’t even win the Northern Champ. They look so silly now.

Dito ! - Felt very sorry for the Launceston United supporters that had come down to support their team. Speaking to a few of them this was also their view.
How many Kingborough supporters travel up north ?. I would think - not too many.

There is no talk of Tas ever getting an A League team so the need of a state league as a pathway is bull.

Kingborough catching a stray as always please don’t mention launie united and kingborough in the same sentence again

Lions bring up as many fans as they can, I think the problem with football in Tasmania is that so many people aren’t willing to have an “away day”, in the UK an away day is the common thing to do, even in non league.

Borough are winning the league

For some reason Zebras are unable to get Any Imports that can actually play football . I’m not sure who is in charge of sourcing these imposters but you really need to give it away

Been the same for twenty years other than the odd import. Mist are worse than players they have.

Borough off week, still favorites to win the league

Does anyone know why the camera angle at darcy street has changed? It's gone from one of the best to one of the worst in the league easily. Who do I need to contact to get it changed back to the original spot, which its always been at?!?

I think it is a new camera crew and are not aware of the usual spot. Might be worth letting them know.

What are your tips/thoughts on the Laka Cup quarter final matches Walter?

Who are the best local players and young local players in NPL for each club?
