The death occurred recently in Hobart of former Rapid defender, Peter Thompson, who was 64 years of age.
Thompson was a member of the Rapid side of the late 1970s and early 1980s which was coached first by Ken Morton and then by David Crosson.
It was one of the best football sides seen in Tasmania and won a fair bit of silverware.

Thompson was nominally a defender and often played at fullback.
But, he was also often used as a specialist defender to man-mark specific opponents. He excelled in this role.
Thompson went on to coach Taroona and Howrah with some success.
My condolences go to his wife, Denise, children Leigh and Danyelle, and grandchildren, Jaxx, Flynn and Gus.
