Pretty ordinary to see the south reserve goal keeper taking two penalties today (and miss both), just rubbing it in a tad to far?

If olympic lose tonight fft well change the rules so they stay up that you can counted on put your money on 10 team comp nextyear.

I feel sorry for Taroona tonight. But perhaps I should feel sorriest for Tassie football as that farce at KGV tonite shows how low the standard has truly sunk. It was an exciting match, breathtaking in the lack of possession, technique, application and tactical nouse. If the Zebras are really the second best team in the league, then we are in deep doo doo. Maybe they simply couldn't be bothered. They have little structure, their soft as shite in the middle of midfield & defense, the left back is an ice cream, Ladic either took a bung from the greeks or he's just simply rotten. One thing the Zebs can do is run at speed at the holes between defenders, but Freddie the coach, if he really was trying to win it, took the most effective strikers off, including busting his sides momentum with an idiotic subbing of Crozza with 3 minutes to go!! So what the hell was he trying to do? The Lapolla Zebras were a better structured, more attacking, effective & spirited side, but Freddie - your lot sucked tonite, mate. If Olympia was any kind of self respecting Premier League club, then why did they have 7 players go down with cramp at this stage of the season? How did that ninny of a referee let 'em get away with such atrocious time wasting?

oh that's right you finished 2nd last.

Putting on Toby in the last 3 minutes was a great tactical change by Fredie. Toby is the fastest bloke in the team, why not throw him on while Olympia are cramping and are out of gas. Fredie coached well, the Zebra boys just didn't want it enough, Olympia played their hearts out.

What a joke on all accounts tonight! There is no way Olympia will keep Chris Hey on next season as coach, dropped tomorrow I suggest! And no way they will allow the kids they currently have in the squad play Premier League next year... what a joke!!! Zebs just didn't have their hearts in it tonight... disappointed for Taroona. If the result had been different and Olympia lost tonight FFT would have for sure changed the rules and we would see a 10 team comp next year. Very disappointing all around!!!

Anonymous said...

11:35pm is obviously a passionate Taroona supportor.. Olympia proved themselves tonight as they did 2 weeks ago against Kings. Romeo, you could not have put that any better. You were unlucky today, however why would you want your players flogging themselves tonight with finals just around the corner. Today didn't matter so there is no reason for anyone to be bagging you out.

Taroona were not good enough to stay in the PL, they lost games they should have won and as it has happened, heavy losses and not enough goals has hurt them. Olympic have had a rollercoaster season, but when everyone was saying they would fall they kept it together and showed they are able to match the top teams. A club that can do that is worth keeping regardless of people's opinions. Its easy for everyone to kick a club while they are down, but they deserve credit after everything they have been through. Taroona were unfortunate, but well done olympia for fighting it out and persevering.

Anonymous said...

Anon 9.17pm. The Zebras did finish 2nd as you state . If they are shite as you say, then it doesnt say much for the team, you support or play for , as they would have finished below them. What has the fact that Zebras finished second have to do with the standard of the league anyway? What is your point?
With regards to the number of players suffering from cramp , I believe that they had a training session earlier in the day. Now that is stupid !Why on earth would you do that? Particularly when the players are only used to training twice a week ,not twice a day ? Obviously they were not fit enough to begin with to be able to do this.
Olympia need to look outside the club for a coach next season if they are serious about improving the club and their players. They stayed in the top flight for next year, but as a club they should be very disappointed with this year's performance. They are extremely lucky that the Zebras were very poor tonight.

Well done to the Zebras!! What many have missed is that Romeo has stepped up to Premier League this year, just like Chris Hey, so why is Chris getting all the praise?? Finishing 2nd to 2nd last is obviously very different.
As an employee of WST, I will be checking that Olympia had a permit to let off fireworks after the game. Oh, but I'm sure that the way Olympia has been throwing the money around, they would be more than happy to pay the fine.

Anonymous 12:45 AM
I too heard that Olympic had a training session just hours before the kick off for arguably their most important game of the season. No coach with half a brain would even do that to a team that have such an important game within hours. Chris has lost his way with Olympic, may have been a Premier League winning coach in the past, but not up to scratch to mix it with the big guns anymore. Dallas for Olympic Senior Coach in 2011. George Mamacas... it's now in your hands and you know what has to be done!

Anonymous said...

omg typical olympia supporter get rid of the coach and everything is fixed, keep hey he has kept you up with a below average squad and is starting to sort out the players who want to be there and the players who are only there because of politics, olympia has started the rebuilding phase and they will only be better off next year for it, i think it will be an interesting league next season and will be alot different to this current season with a number of teams stepping up

Anonymous said...

I just love the fact that the nameless want a conspiricy factor , 21 games and comes down to last round ! both Zebras and Knights have nothing to play for ! but neither want to be accused of lying down.
A draw satisfy's both teams ! go back through the records ( i am sure the Roberts clan will have the information somewhere) how many final fixture games involving relegation issues finish with draws ( unless you are Man Utd and have agreement with West Ham to sign Tevaz )
A mere fact of the previous 20 rounds neither Taroona or Olympia could manage enough points to be save themselves is forgotten at round 21 we have to blame somebody !
Yes it is probably correct that the best eight clubs based on player depth - juniors and other supporting issues are currently in the Premier League - but that is why we have competitions their has to be a winner and a loser at the end.
The bigger question is how to keep Taroona a club that has progressed so far in the last few years from losing many of its younger players to other premier league clubs especially at 19 level !

I feel for Taroona this morning. Understanding the repercussions of this weekends final scores I can say that the system is profoundly unfair. There is no doubt and the evidence will show that Taroona and or Olympia are light years ahead of ANY Div 1 side at the present time. It is disgusting that Taroona are not given the opportunity to consolidate and dig their feet in to the SPL. History has shown that the team coming up is odds on favourite to go down the following year. What needs to be done is an examination of why. Notionally I think it is simply that Clubs need to get traction in the league. The first year it is very difficult for the new club to attract players. However the 2nd year it is a must. One fix maybe is that Relegation applies if a Club finishes last 2 years in a row. Promotion from Div 1 should also be available through a license application agreement with the applying club meeting set criteria. Beachside will finish last in 2011 although FFT may through them a lifeline and make a play off rule with the Div 1 winners in 2011. This of course means a double whammy to the Taroona Club. My best wishes to them going forward.

Anon 7.38 AM . Look at the standard of the 2 squads.Vast difference between Zebras squad and Olympia's. Still though Zebras disappointing this year. With the squad they have and the splattering of youngsters who seem to get a chance one week and then not again for 6 months ,they should have placed more pressure on South Hobart. In my opinion ,one or two players who have been there for a few years , get a regular game even after poor performances week after week. The young players need opoortunity and consistent opportunity to prove themselves. If the Zebras are serious about challenging for the title next year ,they need some players OR forget the title and blood 4 or 5 yougsters ,but give them time to develop. If they are left in the reserves for too long , they will become used to that standard and will find it difficult to step up.They must be thrown in the deep for a while to be tested otherwise they will never develop.

FYI all U couch coaches who know crap about anything. The training session prior to the game went for 50 mins & was more about getting players together and focussed before the game. No physical exursion what so ever.
You put your comments on this blog as someone who knows something and appears to care a lot. Will you be putting your hand up to replace me, no, why because you r a gutless SOB who hides behind the "anonymous". My number is on the website for Olympia, give me a call & we can have a face to face if you have the balls.

People talk about the young kids at the club in 2010. For anyone to criticise the young players last night obviously have another agenda, because they stood up to the test and did it well.
Lets go back to the real Olympia players who should be playing, those players who have won jack shite for the club over the past 14 Years. Yeah great idea.
Look to the future dick head. The
club will most likely lose 3 current senior players thats about it & we will pick up more, because people who really give a shite and done have a personal agenda, can see the club is heading in the right direction.
I intend being around for quite a while yet my dear friend, unless you take over from me (thats the joke).
I have the support from the majority of the playing group and the committee. (that's not good news for you) Go find another club to support.
I spoke about avoiding relegation from day 1 (we did that) I spoke about a 3 year plan, 2 years to go. After that, then U have the right to be critical depending on where the club is at that point.

I read the comments about Fredianni from last night game. They finished 2nd and he has done an excellent job. He put his hand up & the critics did't.

Not every game is going to be full of skill but last evenings game was about heart, desperation, commitment and willingness to fight for survival. I have seen cmany a cup final EPl, world cup games that have not brought as much excitement as last evenings game. U people that get on the blog and criticise everything u possibly can at every opportunity are nothing short of pathetic, weak morbid individuals, full of jealously and maybe even threatened by the youth on your own position as a player within your current club.

I feel extremely sorry for Taroona as they do not deserve to go down to Div 1, especially when the club to be premoted will have to recruit at least 10 new players to the club to be even near competitive. There should have been a playoff between the 2 clubs, to ensure the improvement in the top flight competition. I hope the Taroona club and players stick together and look forward to seeing them in the top flight again in 2012, where they deserve to be.

I am more than happy to step aside at any time, when Olympia Board feels it appropriate & where they feel I cannot offer anymore. If you "Critic" feel u can do better than I or any of the other coaches , doing their best then put you application in. Until then u should shut ur mouth & be positive about the sport or get out of it, as we don't need ur crap.
Really brave to put the blame on up and coming 16 yr old lads who in my mind have been a huge part, keeping Olympia spirit alive in 2010.
That all from me for 2010, thank god. It has been a long season and will continue to be a long nightmare for those who want to see me go, cause I ain't going anyway just yet. SORRY to give u the bad news first.

Olympia finished 6th last year. This year after biting the bullet and changing the culture they have managed 7th + a huge platform to build into future seasons. Fortune favoured the brave. Two wins + draws against Eagles, Sth Hobart and Zebras in the last round proved there is potential. There is no way the Club will change its senior coach now after standing by him through the horros of the first half of the year. Not many top coaches would have been willing to take on the job this year and fewer still would have been able to achieve (off field) what the committee and coach has. all we need now is a reserve coach who is willing to embrace the concept that the reserve team is not a haven for past it senior players but a nursery for future ones + your sprinkling of senior squad players.

Congrats Olympia.

Anonymous..12.38....And i did during the course of pre-season tell some older players the youth policy is what is happening from Chris,s view point being director of coaching and most at the club, but more importantly the president and his committe were all on the same page, yes some people fired shots from the hills, if you look the definition up in the dictionary cowards and troublemakers would describe these non visionaries!.Cris hey makes a very good point re the Clubs non success for many a year..a non youth policy!!..All coaches and committee people spoke at length and decided that what we need to do if the club wants to be strong in years to come..yes there will be pain in the beggining and this year was almost fatal, however we survived...so whoever you are we are all on the same page at Olympia and having been previously associted with the Glenorchy Knights and both a committee and minor coaching roll Div2 premiers last year..( mind you we had a gun team...see mate i am honest about my assessing and most likely a blind monkey could of won that title)..This year the youth of Olympia maybe 16 but next year they will be seventeen..simple maths its called..So I aint going anywhere, and will coach Reserves next year if time allows!!!!!!!

Fact is there was exactly Zero time wasted. The second half of that game went for 52 min and 8 seconds exactly. This was an eternity for all who wanted the whistle to blow. As to the rest of your post what can I say other than I am glad you have some where to vent your anger. I know you feel devastated as well you should. It will be a tough year ahead for the Taroona President and club. Good luck to you all.

Anonymous said...

The odd spelling error? That whole post is full of errors. It is a rant because it goes on for a very long time, is full of foul language and just sounds very angry.

Now perhaps he has been unfairly slandered - but when he actually responds to his critics, especially in that type of way, it just reflects badly on him. It's unprofessional and just shows an angry, insecure and uneducated man. It's embarrassing really but then again, Olympia's president has done the same in the past with the exact same type of letter.

They should just ignore the criticism and get on with it - responding only fuels the fire and lets people know they are getting to you. You don't see referees or many other coaches get on here and defend themselves - it's because you don't need to. It's called getting over it and ignoring it.

Well said Chris Hey and Romeo Frediani, There is never a positive word said on here and both of you have waited until the season's end to have your crack!

Romeo achieved 2nd place which not many people thought would be possible for zebras if you read the pre season posts and predictions. Job well done.

Chris avoided relegation which was his main aim and the clubs main aim. Job well done.

Both coaches bought through young players and gave them a shot as did several other teams in the competition, let's remember though that those young players need to play if they have potential and not just because they are young.. Nandan, Cronk, Phillips all stood up when it counted for Olympia and I think young Muller and Kurt Engels have been two of the best players for Zebras this year so I think Freddy and Chris' selections are justified??

Champions - Sth Hobart

Most improved side - Sth Hobart extended the gap

Most over-achieving side - Kingborough as they should be in div 1

Most under-achieving side -
Knights as they should have pushed south further, possibly also clarence as they should have done better

Best Player in the League - Tom Roach

Best Young player - Kurt Engels

My pick for Vic Tuting - Ben Crosswell

Best Referee - Ivan Joseljic

Coach of the Year - Ken Morton

Team of the Year -
B.Peter
L.Scott
D.Brown
A.Holmes
K.Engels
S.McIntyre
B.Beecroft

Both games very entertaining to watch.
Very fine line for relegation, i was sitting in line with Telega's header late in the second half which skimmed the crossbar, thats how close Olympia came to be relegated and for Taroona to stay up.
But that is just one of many moments over a long season and the what ifs and who did what's count for nothing.
Would be good to see more Friday and Saturday night matches at KGV.
Seems to bring out more crowds and atmosphere. Imagine if the Olympia/Zebras game was at South Hobart on a Saturday arvo with other SPL games clashing plus Division matches etc, would have been lucky to have gotten 100 people. Double headers would be great for getting crowds etc but logistically for clubs would be very difficult but not impossible.
Why not try it for 2-3 seasons?
One thing that impressed me both about Olympia and Taroona is that both tried to play football and were fairly well organised, much more so than other teams who finished much higher and relied on individual brilliance.
Well done to both coaches for this.
The reality is for all clubs placed 2 to 8 and Beachside/University have a long way to go to get anywhere near South.
Also, its been a great couple weeks for the game here, with these games and the Mariners game.
Still have a Cup final, and a finals series hopefully to top it off. If we could have arranged another match for a State team like the Heidelberg one years ago then that would have topped things off.

The fact that people are still not able to accept that Olympia did not get relegated are obviously worried that the will get beaten next year. It is a sure sign of insecurity.

With Olympia, I think some of their older more experienced players stood up to help the young boys. It's always hard trying to get unity with some players being a lot older than the others but I think Olympia had that unity for the last round of games and showed that they could play like a team no matter how many years difference there was between all sets of players. Experience and youth, great combination for any side and hopefully Olympia can prove this for the years to come. Good luck.

Saw the Beach V Uni game

First 15 min B dominated but then Uni found their straps and looked fitter and had the upper hand for the rest of the game. Uni goal from a series of excellent 1 touch passes. B goal from a free kick on the edge of the box. Bootfest from Robison and Peacock from the kickouts was great to watch, not often you see Nathan outkicked.

Unfortunately the ref was not up to at this level and go a little out of hand at times and many infringements were missed. Both teams would hold their own in SPL based on the std of this particular game.

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't underestimate Fletch's contribution since coming back into the team for the South Hobart game. The younger players needed leadership from the older players and they love having Fletch in the team.

Anonymous said...

No doubt Fletcher's inclusion helped the young guys as did Lee Mason and Dmitri Nester. At the end of the day it was a team effort and as a spectator on Saturday night you could really sense that the Olympia players pulled it together to play the game as a team on the night. Something that if they stick to, could lead them to more wins next season.

Quite what Chris Hey thinks he's achieving by putting a ridiculous post up like that for the rest of the soccer community to see is beyond me. It shows the immature nature of a flawed person, who by all accounts is lucky to still have his job and a team in the premier league.

If it wasn't for the players who had to pick themselves up in the second part of the season after he was changing the line up every week, then the club would have been sunk ages ago.

I would of thought Chris would be trying to tempt more players along to the club next year and for people to read that dribble you'd say no thanks. Any parent can see that if a senior coach can't rise above what "Anonymous" writes and lets face it, it could be absolutely anyone. Then he's not going to go far like he did with the other clubs he's coached.

I'm also glad that some people have recognised that the team wasn't just made up of Chris' 16 yr olds, and that they have played the most important in keeping the club up. If i was on the Olympia board i'd be telling him to grow up or move on!

You have no idea. What I read was a massive release of frustration - something he obviously managed to hold in until after the job was done. Good on him I say. The senior coaching job at Olympia this year was a tough gig. It will be far easier next year and Chris deserves to see that through. What the parent would be impressed with, and I'm one, is the Club's youth policy. My bet is that Olympia will continue to attract quality young players to go with those that have already played seniors, reserves, U19s and U16s this year. Of course, you are free to choose an alternative Club.

As far as last saturday night's game and the season in general goes. Disappointing season on a whole as we proved that we can match most if not any team in the league, shame it took us till the last round to do it! Positive though that we avoided relegation, but shouldn't have come to that in the first place!!!
All players on the team contributed throughout the whole season, old or young, we all did our part, interesting to see all the comments about the young guys stepping up(which they did) but i'm sure they were held together by experienced guys scattered through the forward/midfield and back lines. AS for the last game, Zebras busted their nuts to win, as did we.. we could have won, they could have also, simple as that. 2-2

thing is Fletch you weren't bagged all year for being shite - so those interesting comments you refer to were probably justified as being a retort to that. Of course, the older guys were required to set the example. You did that as much as any. Hope to see you back in blue next year my friend.

Watched the highlights then, Olympia are a joke of a club if they are celebrating like that after finishing 2nd last and winning the least amount of games in the season.

Ask someone what relegation means. Then ask them what it means pertaining to the southern premier league and div 1. At this point you will understand why the celebration.

Where were all these Wagon supporters when the season was on?

Agree or disagree with Chris Hey's selections ,attitude, discipline etc etc , Olympia will be a force in 2 or 3 years time if they keep their young players interested and committed. Unlike some other clubs who do not allow young players to develop , these youngsters now have a season under their belt (albeit a tough one indeed)and will be the better for it.They have had this experience as a young group together ,which will go a long way to develop them as good players in the future. There are a few coaches who are purely interested in results only and nothing else .Anyone can pick up a ready made side ,add one or two new players and do OK without seriously looking at youngsters or developing young players, because this takes time.I predict now that Olympia will overtake the likes of Zebras and Knights in 2 or 3 years .You cannot expect young players to play reserves all year and then when an opportunity arises, due to an unjury/unavailability of a senior player ,expect them to perform to a senior standard without having sufficient experince at that level.Olympia have done the right thing in clearing out all those who do not wish to conform and proceed with a group of youngsters who are committed. It almost back-fired on them , but it didnt.

Big Call re Olympia and youth in years to come.
Name me a Premier League side that doesn't have 4 or 5 fairly regular senior players who are under 20, which is about what Olympia had?
They all have it, even South.
The average age of senior squads id say has dropped quite a bit.
Every club can say exactly the same thing.
Taroona has had decent youth coming through for 3-4 years but whilst they are stronger that what they were, they are in Div 1 now.
No matchwinners or game breakers in that lot.
The younger players at Olympia looked half decent against Zebras but in terms of dominating or influencing results now or in 2-3 years time i would say there are about 20-30 players of the same age at other clubs who are just as good if not better.
Im sure Olympia people remember this but reality is they won 2 games out of 21 for 13 points. University the year before were relegated with 4 wins and 14 points.
Lots of work to be done by all if they are fair dinkum in catching South Hobart.
Also who are the non conforming? The Tsakirris family, Adam Powell, Dipper?
Fair bit of talent there, could have been useful for the years going forward.
