Devonport City should maintain their 5-point
lead over second-placed Olympia Warriors when they travel to Wentworth Park tomorrow
to take on bottom-side Clarence United at 2.30pm.
The first-placed Devonport could even extend
their lead at the top of the NPL Tasmania standings should Olympia falter
against second-last Riverside Olympic at home at Warrior Park at 2.15pm
tomorrow.
The most likely scenario is that Devonport and
Olympia will win and maintain the status quo at the top.
Third-placed South Hobart entertain
fifth-ranked Glenorchy Knights at home at South Hobart Oval at 2pm on Sunday
and should win, thus staying 3 points adrift of Olympia and 8 points behind
Devonport.
Fourth-ranked Hobart Zebras are away to
seventh-placed Launceston City at Buckby Land Rover Park in Launceston at
4.30pm tomorrow.
Zebras will be keen to win this contest as they
have three teams breathing down their neck and to finish outside the top-four
would be a huge disappointment for the club.
Devonport should have Daniel Syson available
after suspension, but mystery still surrounds Brayden Mann, who has returned and
signed for his former club after a brief stint with Dandenong in Victoria.
The Devonport ship is steering a steady course
for the title and the feeling is probably why unsettle a confident and stable
line-up, so Mann may have to wait his turn.
Clarence have no chance whatsoever against
Devonport, regardless of the unpredictability of football, which makes it such
an intriguing sport.
The Eastern Shore outfit have one win from 14
outings and have shipped 93 goals and scored only 4.
It’s almost impossible to imagine a bleaker
situation and the only interest in this game is surely whether Clarence will
hit the magic century of goals conceded.
Devonport are certainly capable of scoring 7
goals against Clarence so it promises to be a dismal afternoon for the home
side.
Olympia should beat Olympic and stay 5-points
behind Devonport and one of the home side’s challenges in this game is to try
and score as many goals as possible and become the competition’s highest
scoring team.
Zebras have fallen into a hole and they are on
a hiding to nothing against sister Italian-backed club Launceston City.
The return from suspension of Jayden Hey will
improve Zebras’ chances, but the wily City coach, Lino Sciulli could have a surprise
or two up his sleeve for this game.
One cannot dismiss City’s chances of winning
what will be a difficult encounter for the southerners.
Glenorchy Knights showed last week they can
score against the best. At least Callum
Brown can.
Knights fell by the way side by half-time
against Devonport after twice leading.
They can’t afford to be complacent against
South Hobart, who are a fast, attacking side and who can score goals.
South Hobart should win, but Knights coach
James Sherman will be hoping that his side can maintain concentration and take the
game right up to the home side.
