Today’s top-of-the-table Women’s Super League clash at Warrior Park is crucial in terms of the destination of the 2020 title.

Home-side Olympia Warriors have a 5-point lead over second-placed Clarence Zebras, but the latter have a game in hand.

Each has beaten the other 1-0 in their previous encounters this season so today’s game, which kicks off at 2.15pm, promises to be another close affair.

If the Warriors win, they will have one hand on the title.

If they lose, the advantage swings the way of Clarence Zebras.

Olympia midfielder Olivia Bomford is pleased that her side are at home at Warrior Park for this match.

“We’re all feeling really confident about the game,” Bomford said.

“We’re going to go in and take it like any other game.

“I know it’s important in terms of winning the title, but all in all, we’re pretty confident about it.

“We’re feeling really good in ourselves to go out and get the result.

“Being at home is good for us because we train there twice a week and they don’t get a chance to play or train on artificial turf that much so it definitely plays into our favour there.

“We get advantages and it favours our game plan because we like to move the ball quickly and it plays into our hands.

“We have to win every game from now on in to ensure that we win the title.”

Bomford said the two previous games between the sides had been played in difficult, windy conditions and that had helped Clarence Zebras because they were a more physical side.

She said Olympia liked to keep possession and play the ball quickly and if they could do that today it would give the Warriors the advantage.

Olympia Warriors coach, Alastair Russell, is eagerly anticipating today’s clash.

“We have a full squad to choose from and no injuries,” Russell said.

“Everyone is fit and raring to go.

“We trained really well this week, so there’ll be no excuses.

“I’m looking forward to what will, hopefully, be a great game between two good squads.

“I can't wait!”

Clarence Zebras coach, Chris Hey, is also looking forward to what could be the title decider.

“I imagine both clubs are looking forward to the contest and, once again, it should be a close contest,” Hey said.

“We have nothing to lose, really, and I feel the pressure is on Olympia to hold us off.

“They have played some great football this season and you can tell they are truly focussed on getting some silverware, so we will need to be at our very best to get something out of this game.

“Nothing short of a win will be enough for us, so our players will need to step up.

“I don't think we have played our best football in 2020, but in saying that, I have the confidence in my players that, if they want this, they have the ability to beat Olympia and keep the title race alive.”

In today's other game, a bottom-of-the-table clash, second-last Kingborough Lions United entertain bottom-side University at 2.15pm at Lightwood Park.
