Knights should stay top of the NPL Tasmania standings

Glenorchy Knights should beat Olympia Warriors away at Warrior Park today [Saturday] and stay top of the standings.

Knights are the only unbeaten side in the league competition and they are easily the highest scoring team, so Olympia could be in for a torrid evening.

Nick Naden is an injury worry for the Knights after he limped off in the Lakoseljac Cup Final last Monday.

Olympia have a young side and they tend to be hit-and-miss and they will have to be at their best to challenge the Knights.

Second-placed Devonport Strikers face an awkward home match against second-last Launceston City at Valley Road.

Fresh from their Lakoseljac Cup Final triumph, Devonport should be too good, but they may be missing three key players.

Centre-forward Miles Barnard came off in the Cup Final with a leg injury, while Daniel Syson had a bleeding nose after being hit in the face with the ball.

Brody Denehey’s goal-bound shot from close range hit Syson in the face before entering the net and Syson had to leave the field and receive attention for what may have been a broken nose.

Defender Raphael Reynolds suffered what appeared to be a dislocated shoulder in the Cup Final but saw out the match.  Whether he will play against Launceston City is an intriguing question.

Launceston City are better than their league position indicates and if they keep 11 players on the pitch they could cause a surprise.

Third-ranked South Hobart will be desperate to beat sixth-placed Clarence Zebras away at Wentworth Park in order to stay in touch with the two leading teams.

South Hobart should be too strong against Clarence Zebras, who are relying on numerous youngsters who may not be quite ready for the top flight.

Bottom-side Riverside Olympic entertain fourth-placed Kingborough Lions United at home at Windsor Park.

The Lions must win if they are to avoid a downward slide after topping the standings only a few weeks ago.

The inclusion of the experienced Greg Downes in defence should strengthen the Lions’ chances.
