Toss a coin, or go cross-eyed

There should be no changes to the top-four in the NPL Tasmania competition after today’s round of matches.

League-leaders Glenorchy Knights should shrug aside the challenge of fourth-placed Kingborough Lions United at 4.30pm at KGV Park.

The Lions were idle last weekend and they could be a little rusty, whereas the Knights needed extra-time to dispose of Launceston City in the semi-finals of the Lakoseljac Cup.

That extra bit of a workout for Knights should stand them in good stead today against the Lions as they will have been able to oil any squeaky wheels based on that experience.

Austin Yost comes back into the Knights team for his second appearance since signing from Olympia and he may well provide the spark they were missing last weekend.

The Lions are a hit-and-miss side and the week off will have done them few favours.

Second-placed South Hobart face an awkward away trip to Buckby Motors Park to face Launceston City and they cannot be assured of returning with 3 points.

Reigning champions Devonport City are improving each week and should be too good for the visiting Riverside Olympic at 2.15pm at Valley Road.

The remaining game of the round is at Wentworth Park at 4.30pm when sixth-ranked Clarence Zebras entertain fifth-placed Olympia Warriors.

It’s extraordinary that this game clashes with the one at KGV Park when these are the only two NPL fixtures in the south.

It means football supporters in general (and not club supporters) will have to toss a coin to decide which one to watch.

Those who choose to watch live-stream also face a dilemma.  They may well go cross-eyed trying to watch both games on two different screens.

Are we trying to promote the game or kill it.

Meanwhile, Sunday has only women’s games and no NPL.

Whoever decides these rosters clearly isn’t trying.
