Glenorchy Knights were missing Josh Fielding and the suspended Corey Smith but they were untroubled in holding Tilford Zebras to a goalless opening half.

Seven minutes after the break, Ben Peter produced an excellent save to deny the Zebras’ Henry Fagg after a left-wing cross from Jayden Welch.

Two minutes later, Brendan Garth sent a long-range shot just over the Zebras’ bar.

On the hour, Peter again did well to deny Welch, whose awkward toe-poke almost propelled the ball beyond the keeper’s reach.

Peter’s error in the 71st minute gave Zebras their winner. Paul Cairns released Dwayne Walsh down the left and his cross was punched clear by Peter, but only to Jonathon Ladic, who rifled the ball home off the right-hand post.

Jacob Huigsloot was booked by Mr Collins in the 79th minute when he left the field without permission after being injured.

Knights used their three substitutes in an endeavour to turn the match, but it was to no avail.

· Glenorchy Knights coach, Nick Harrison, said:

“I thought it could have been 1-0 either way, but, unfortunately, it went the wrong way.

“They had better chances than we did. It’s disappointing that we lost 1-0, but we had quite a few players out tonight.

“I’m pleased with the way we played and the way the lads who came in did well. We had reserve team players come in.

“It would have been nice to get a result tonight to get second place and a home game in the finals series.

“But, we’ll keep going. They’ve got a couple of hard games left but we’ll keep going to the end and see what happens.”

· Tilford Zebras coach, Romeo Frediani, said:

“I thought it was good in patches.

“We actually knocked the ball around quite well and created a lot of opportunities in that first half.

“And, in the second half, too. We didn’t get on the end of things in the first half.

“All in all, I’m happy with the points.”

the lineup for knights was a bit out of position there walter, it was

huigsloot, green, grundy, marsh
garth, russell, holmes, clay
nowicki, koroma

I thought Nowicki started at the back and then changed position later, while I thought Clay was on the right and Garth on the left? Yes, Huigsloot was at the back. Any comment? Thanks for your help.

Garth and clay were swapping throughout the game. Nowicki was always up front. He dropped in a few times to cover for people bombing on, but surely was never starting at right back? I don't know, it's hard to say.

Query in regards to Huigsloots yellow card, Maybe you can help in reagrds to rules?? Yellow card for leaving the field without permission, Huigsloot was given permission from the linesman was my understanding?? Does the permission need to be from the centre referee??

Zebras struggle to defeat and severly undermanned Knights outfit. The Knights line up looks like the reserves line up from earlier in the year

i can only remember garth being in the lineup at the start of the year?

Regarding the yellow. Permission can only come from the Referee. The Assisant ref can not give this. Players need to wait on the touch line until permission is given leave the field of play. Hope this helps!

Ridiculous rules regarding the Huigsloot incident. If the linesman gives the okay, surely it is okay?? Very harsh to book him.

Original senior players from start of year: holmes, huigsloot, clay, koroma, grundy,

Reserves: Marsh, Garth, Green, Nowicki, Russell

6:09, Garth is a fringe player who has only played three senior games this year.

Who cares Zebras won and Knights lost

the Huigsloots card was a joke. he had dislocated his finger and with out thinking ran nearly the whole field to get treatment. it was to no advantage to knights or anyone to that matter so why book him. bit of common sense in this situation was needed but beening the ref who it was it doesnt surprise me that he got his cards out. what if Huigsloots had already been on a yellow would have got a second on for that been sent off and it would have ruined which wasnt a bad game

With Knights a full team, Garth doesnt play seniors

The Assistant ref should have advised the player to stay on the field until he had permission from the Referee to leave the field of play. If he is that worried about the yellow, challenge it!! Call the AR concerned as a witness.

think garth has been part of the senior squad for most of the year coming off the bench on numerous occassions as well.

Brodie Green started centre back for the entire season last year and in my opinion was Knights' most consistent defender in 09. All of those guys have senior experience, though. I don't think anyone really cares to be honest, get over it.

What a joke. Get a life!

anon 3:17 if your talking about the comment Garth hats off to you. great young lads dont think he has missed many session this year and pretty sure he is involved with the senior squad at knights every week

Anonymous said...

Garth is not involved with the senior squad at Knights every week. What would that be saying about Knights?

Anonymous said...

anon 3:41, took a hard look at yourself and look at other people from other clubs that do start in seniors, surely garth can play seniors, i know he can.

9 46. Haha. Alright. Im not saying he can't? hes not a great player tho. We are talking about The Knights here. A good side. Garthy will get his chance later on. The ocassional senior appearance is all he should be getting in that side
