Devonport should extend their lead at the top

Fifth-placed Kingborough Lions United travel to Valley Road on Saturday, the home of NPL Tasmania leaders Devonport City.

Will it be a case of the Lions hunting in a pack, or will it be lambs to the slaughter?

When the sides last met in the league, Devonport came away from Lightwood Park with a 3-2 win.

I reckon Devonport will win this one and increase their lead at the top to 6 points over second-placed Olympia Warriors, at least until Sunday, when the Warriors host fourth-ranked Hobart Zebras at 4.30pm at Warrior Park.

The outcome of Olympia’s appeal against the docking of 3 points for playing the ineligible Lucas Hill in the 3-1 win over South Hobart is unknown as yet.

If their appeal fails, and if they lose to the Zebras, they could soon be 9 points behind Devonport, which would effectively end Olympia’s title hopes.

Zebras will have centre-back Jan Charuza back from suspension, but Riley Dillon is still suspended.

They will also hope to have midfielders Jordan Muller and Luke Huigsloot available.

Olympia welcome back defenders Lucas Hill and Paul Stevens for this clash, but defender Jake Vandermey is unavailable.

Seventh-placed Glenorchy Knights should beat bottom-side Clarence United on Saturday at 2.30pm at KGV Park.

Clarence have had respectable results in the past couple of weeks, but they were still losses.

Knights broke their losing streak last week and will hope to make it two wins on the trot and they could leapfrog Launceston City and Kingborough and move up two places into fifth if those two sides lose.

Launceston City meet Riverside Olympic at Windsor Park at 2.30pm on Saturday in what could be a close contest.

South Hobart have the bye.
