One Southern Championship side will be in the semi-finals of the 2021 Lakoseljac Cup competition after the draw was made by Football Tasmania yesterday in the presence of University coach Lochie Brown and his assistant Jack Harrison.
Taroona have been drawn at home against University, ensuring the presence of a Southern Championship outfit in the semis.
The other three quarterfinals are intriguing pairing that could go either way.
Holders Glenorchy Knights are away to Kingborough Lions United at Lightwood Park and this Saturday will provide a good taster as the sides meet in the league.
South Hobart host Devonport City at South Hobart Oval and two weekends ago we saw the sides meet at Valley Road and South Hobart take the spoils 1-0 through a Nick Morton penalty.
Last year’s losing finalists Olympia Warriors travel north to face Launceston City in what has been a traditional blockbuster between these clubs since the 1960s.
The Women’s State-wide Cup has been spoiled by
teams forfeiting. Forfeits destroy the credibility of a competition.
One can only scratch one’s head about this as it has destroyed any attempt to promote this cup as a serious competition. It makes a mockery of the series.
For the record, the quarterfinal draw is:
Launceston United v New Town White Eagles
South Hobart v Olympia Warriors
Clarence Zebras v Taroona
Kingborough Lions United v Devonport City
The quarterfinals for the Under-20 State-wide Cup are:
Launceston United v Ulverstone
Clarence Zebras v Olympia Warriors
Launceston City v Riverside Olympic
South Hobart v Glenorchy Knights
The quarterfinals of the three competitions will be played on the weekend of 30 April and 1 and 2 May 2021.
