Second-placed Olympia Warriors trail league-leaders Clarence Zebras by 10 points as the teams go into their Women’s Super League game at Wentworth Park at 2.15pm on Sunday, but Olympia midfielder Isabelle Cane is confident of a good result.
Cane, 18, refuses to concede that the title is settled after just 13 rounds.
“I think we expect a really physical competition and a really tough match and a really crucial match,” Cane said.
“I think they’re really quick on the counter and so we have to be at our best.
“It’s really tough but very exciting for me as I think in women’s football in Tasmania it’s the biggest game you can be a part of.
“It’s going to be pretty much like a finals match because it’s so exciting in the Women’s Super League this year.
“Definitely, undeniably, it’s really crucial for us and I think we’re aware of that.
“Our last result, we weren’t completely focused because of the State-wide Cup Final the following week, but I think we know what we have to do because we’ve played them a number of times now and I think it’s just about getting the result and sticking to our strengths.
“We’ve been a little bit up and down recently, but I think that a win in this would spur us on for the last couple of months of the league.
“It would be nice to have that treble under our belt at the end.”
Cane has scored one goal this season, but her 19-year-old sister, Mia, has 7 goals to her name and the Warriors will be expecting big things from her on Sunday.
Clarence Zebras trounced the Warriors 6-1 the last time they met and the home side must be confident of a similar score-line on Sunday.
Zoe Nichols hit a hat-trick last weekend and Allie Berry and Taylor Rand are also dangerous in attack.

Rand scored against South Hobart last week with a goal reminiscent of the famous Brazilian Garincha’s ‘falling leaf’ shot, where the ball goes high in the air and then dips underneath the crossbar at the last minute.
The other league game between the sides this season resulted in a 2-1 away win for Clarence Zebras, so the scales seem to be swinging in the home side’s favour.
Third-placed Launceston United host second-last South Hobart at WMPS Park at noon on Saturday and should be favoured to win.
Fifth-placed Kingborough Lions United entertain bottom-side Taroona at Lightwood Park at 2.15pm on Sunday and should win at a canter.
Women’s Super League schedule this weekend:
Launceston United v South Hobart (WMPS Park, noon, Saturday)
Kingborough Lions United v Taroona (Lightwood Park, 2.15pm, Sunday)
Clarence Zebras v Olympia Warriors (Wentworth Park, 2.15pm, Sunday)
Women’s Super League (As at 16 July 2021)
