Western United suffered their first A-League loss in seven Tasmanian appearances when they went down 3-0 to Wellington Phoenix at UTAS Stadium in Launceston tonight.

A superb left-footed shot by Sasse Yan in the 19th minute put Wellington in front.

It could have been more by that stage but for some fine goalkeeping by Western United’s Jamie Young.

Wellington were the dominant team in the first half but could not increase their lead by halftime.

Kraeve made it 2-0 for the Kiwis in the 58th minute when he ran onto a long ball out of defence and cut inside before curling a delightful shot beyond Young and inside the right-hand post.

Zawada completed the Victory with a penalty in the 64th minute.

Lachlan Wales had a couple of excellent chances before the end for Western United, but it wasn’t their night.

The Victorians are unlikely to make the finals now, while Wellington are looking good for a top-six finish,
