Mariners score five against Fury

Central Coast Mariners scored five goals in one match for the first time in their history this evening as they downed bottom-side North Queensland Fury 5-1 away at Dairy Farmers Stadium in Townsville.

The win leaves the Mariners in fourth place.

The Fury twice hit the woodwork, through Robbie Fowler and Dyron Dahl, while David Williams had a ‘goal’ disallowed, so it could have been a lot closer.

Pedj Bojic put the Mariners ahead after 22 minutes, while Nik Mrdja added the second in the 35th minute.

Mrdja netted the third, and his second of the night, in the 59th minute with a free-kick.

Ahmed Elrich made it 4-0 in the 62nd minute before Rostyn Griffiths pulled a goal back for the Fury in the 68th minute.

John Hutchinson completed the scoring by notching the Mariners’ fifth 8 minutes from the end.

Was a bit surprised with this result. The Fury had been plaing alright and seemed to be in a nice bit of form. Playing at home too. Good numbers turned up to watch the game which was great for Football in that region. Great numbers as far as the A-league & FFA are concerned. Hopefully they will bounce back. I;m sure GOD will get them back on track.
