A brilliant through-ball by Bernhard Klasen in the 18th minute set up Harry Coomer for Beachside’s opening goal in this cup final.

Klasen’s knees might be somewhat inflexible these days, but the vision and technique are still there and he showed throughout the match that he can still influence play at this level.

It took until almost half-way through the second period for Beachside to stamp their authority on the game.

In the 61st minute, Simon Burrett made it 2-0 with a  good finish.

Five minutes later, Burrett completed his brace to put Kingborough on the canvas (or should that be artificial turf?) at 3-0 down.

To the Lions’ credit, they kept plugging away and they get their reward in the 82nd minute when Adam Coleman fired against the crossbar and Michael Stephens netted from the rebound.

Michael Wells and Adrian Pereira did well at the back for Kingborough, but ultimately the speed of Beachside in attack proved decisive.

Brett Pullen dominated the defence for Beachside and, with the support of Ben Davies, proved a largely insurmountable hurdle for the Lions.

Robert Knight and Simon Burrett were some old South Hobart faces that did well for Beachside.

Beachside had at least two players who are ultra-marathoners or similar adventurers and they probably could have run all night.
