Olympia Warriors were held to a 1-1 draw
by Taroona in last night’s Championship Summer Cup game at KGV Park.
In the opening fixture, Beachside easily
accounted for South East United 8-1.
Olympia took the lead against Taroona in
the 14th minute when young full-back Ewan Sloan floated a cross from
the right over goalkeeper Kieran Seidler and inside the far post.
Taroona squandered a great chance to draw
level when they won a penalty in the 35th minute after Teddy Kadisha
brought down Kanato Hamaguchi, but Sam James placed his spot-kick wide.

In stoppage time at the end of the first
half, Taroona equalised when Oliver Maxwell eluded the Olympia defence and
goalkeeper and rolled the ball into an empty net.
Both sides had good chances in the second
half but were unable to score.
Olympia twice hit the woodwork, through Jacob
Herbert and Austin Yost, while Herbert also put a shot narrowly over the bar.
With 8 minutes remaining, Evan Arnold unlocked
the Taroona defence on the right and cut the ball inside for a team-mate to
shoot, but the ball was deflected wide.

Matthew Oh and Hamaguchi drove Taroona forward
from midfield, but the three-man Olympia defence held firm and the sides had to
settle for a draw.
Three goals in the opening quarter of an
hour by Beachside destroyed South East United.
Nick McDonald looped the opener home with
his thigh in the 10th minute from Ben Whitehall’s right-wing cross.
Adam Lapolla netted the second in the 12th
minute, while Nick Westenberg hit the third.
Whitehall was proving dangerous down the right
flank and had a hand in all three goals.
David Cox and Liam Toselli scored in the
35th and 41st minutes, respectively, to give Beachside a
commanding 5-0 lead at the interval.

The skilful Jackson Ebini pulled a goal
back for South East United in the 61st minute. The youngster has now netted twice in this
tournament as a an attacking full-back and it is a puzzle why he turned his
back on the top-flight with Clarence to play in the second tier
competition. He was a youth player with
Olympia at one stage before moving to Clarence.
Beachside recovered from this temporary
setback and finished almost as they had started, with three goals in the final 10
minutes.
Whitehall made it 6-1 in the 81st
minute, Matthew Goldsmith 7-1 in the 85th minute, and Ashley Fisher
8-1 in the final minute.
Simon McGuire was brave and agile in goal
for South East United and prevented an even higher score with a fine display.

That is not Koby in the last photo Walter.
Koby has the similar rugged good looks as his father has if that helps.
Thanks, Anonymous 3.13pm. I apologise to Koby and to the player in the photo. It looks as if he has No.3 on his shorts, which was Koby's number. There was no Number 13 on the team sheet, nor any two-digit number ending in 3, so I am puzzled. Perhaps someone can help me out? I think Koby wears black Nike boots (I saw that in another photo) and doesn't have a headband, so I should have considered the matter more fully.
The mystery player is none other than Sam Cummins!
He normally does wear number 3 and a head band but it doesn't look like him unless it's the angle that the photo was taken on.
The boots are not ones he wears either so well spotted.
Did I mention that his father also has chiselled good looks.
Walter, having coached & viewed football for years I tell you, Ebini has skill and talent. But he is a defensive liability. I have watched the summer cup games and last year with Clarrence, and his defensive awareness and positioning in non existent. South East have potential but a lot to work on.
